We have a friend called Jaco (I don’t mean best friends) and love his name and he’s a great guy too so that’s perfect. We love the name for our baby boy to be…
But what is the general feeling on the name Jaco ?

potentially…
Jaco Sebastian
or are long standing option..
Sebastian Leo

Not too keen on Jaco. From your updated list I love Sebastian! Also really like Leo, and like Raphael. Casper - I just can’t quite get past the ghost thing!

JFC noooooo! I say that because in Glasgow this is a term of ridicule almost abuse and derogatory re homeless people or those who are unkempt. It would be like calling someone, 'skank' or 'tramp'.

I'm from just near Glasgow - I have never hear 'Jaco' being derogatory, it was more 'Jayky' (spelling may vary but pronounced Jay-ky or Jay-key). It's associated with being one or more of the following - unkemp, homeless, begging, addicted to something, stealing.
It's not a very nice term.

Sebastian is a really good choice IMO. Definitely my favourite out of all of them. Casper just makes me think friendly ghost, but I do like Caspian.

Thanks :)

Thanks for all views on Jaco…!
Perhaps leaning back towards…
Sebastian
Raphael
Casper
Leo

Casper is my favourite from all of those (although that's maybe because I used to work with a cool guy called Casper).

KeinLiebeslied54321 · 16/04/2024 12:20

I feel like it's half a name.
I also wouldn't know whether it's Jacko or Yacko, being as J names can be pronounced differently. The first version gives me Michael Jackson vibes too!
Jacob/Jakob (Yakob) are nice though.

There 4 are lovely

Nicebloomers · 16/04/2024 12:06

Raphael is lovely. The rest of your list is great imo

Nicebloomers · 16/04/2024 12:05

I think Jago is a better choice for all the reasons listed above.

You could call him Jackson nn Jaco?

SpringOfContentment · 16/04/2024 11:43

I'd pronounce it a Yac-o.

Think Sebastian is a safer bet.

My husband works with some South African guys, one is called Jaco pronounced Yaco not Jacko.

SiobhanSharpe · 16/04/2024 11:08

Actually, Jacob can be pronounced Jackob. Or even Yacob.
Wasn't the late Michael Jackson occasionally referred to as Wacko Jacko? (In his Disnleyland ranch /pet monkeys period)

PeaceOnThePorch · 16/04/2024 11:06

It’s awful. I agree about it being a nickname for men with the surname Jackson, also awful. 😬

Sebastian is much better.

BingoMarieHeeler · 16/04/2024 11:03

I definitely read it first off, and prefer it, as Jake-o. Same way Jago and Jacob are pronounced. Jack-o just doesn’t compute in my mind when spelled Jaco for some reason. The K is essential IMO. But I’d only need to be told how it’s pronounced once, so not a massive deal.

CeraveFoam · 16/04/2024 11:01

I'd also assume a typo. If I heard it, I'd think Wacko Jacko (showing my age).

ScubaDivingSpiderMonkey · 16/04/2024 11:00

It sounds like the kind of nickname blokes give one another. Jacko, Big Dave, and Slugger. They're on the darts team.

Moveoverdarlin · 16/04/2024 10:59

I’d assume it was a nickname for a 55 year old builder called Rob Jackson. Only Jackos I know are because their surname is Jackson.

I’d also assume it was pronounced Jay-co

DrJoanAllenby · 16/04/2024 10:56

It might work on foreign shores but in the U.K. it will be a source of annoyance at the way it is often mispronounced or misspelt with a b added on the end to spell Jacob.

Jago is better.

MiddleAgedDread · 16/04/2024 10:54

The only Jacko's I've known have been blokes with the surname Jackson. I'm afraid I'm not a fan and I think without the "k" people will pronounce it more like Jake-O.

Enko · 16/04/2024 10:25

I really like it. Also like Jago

traveller7785 · 16/04/2024 10:24

Maybe Sebastian is safer!
