We have a friend called Jaco (I don’t mean best friends) and love his name and he’s a great guy too so that’s perfect. We love the name for our baby boy to be…
But what is the general feeling on the name Jaco ?

potentially…
Jaco Sebastian
or are long standing option..
Sebastian Leo

I have a friend Jacco but it's normally pronounce Yacco because it's a Germanic name

CurlewKate · 18/04/2024 07:45

@ScubaDivingSpiderMonkey "It sounds like the kind of nickname blokes give one another. Jacko, Big Dave, and Slugger. They're on the darts team."

🤣 Big Dave is 5"5 and weighs 8 stone.....

burnttoad · 18/04/2024 07:42

Sounds too much like the white South African or Australian abbreviated names Jono, Danno, Simmo, or the ones with 'A' at the end Gazza, Bazza etc

Not great

spanieleyes · 17/04/2024 19:28

I had a toy monkey called Jacko when I was little ( sorry, not helpful!)

breezefromthesea · 17/04/2024 19:24

Makes me think of Winnie Mcgoogan's husband Jaco in Mrs Browns boys.

Yes in SA he is Yaco pronunciation, in UK he goes by Ja-co and is a well liked name

thanks for all feedback and name suggestions! Front runner is..

Sebastian

tho am also liking Jude…

Jude is too unisex. Not a name to give a male.

Reminds me of the Waco massacre.

ISeeTheLight · 17/04/2024 17:02

Jaco sounds like a parrot name to me, sorry.
I really like your other 4 options though.

OhYoko · 17/04/2024 16:55

Haven't read the full thread so someone else might have mentioned this, but it makes me think of 1980s legendary sitcom . Jaco was a painter.

What about Jacoby?

Then he could be Jaco for short.

From your list, I really like Raphael.

I love Jacoby too. And Jacobus! Good thing I'm passed it now as these are names that DH would NEVER have agreed on. Bit weird I'm on for Jaco, Jacoby, and Jacobus but wouldn't do plain Jacob.

WarningOfGails · 17/04/2024 09:48

I love Jaco pronounced the South African way. Traditionally short for Jacobus.

OP in SA it would be pronounced Ya-ku.

Agree with others it’s a name that doesn’t really travel well.

nodtik · 17/04/2024 05:52

Lulu1919 · 17/04/2024 05:48

LieutenantJumboJr · 17/04/2024 05:23

HerRoyalNotness · 17/04/2024 03:24

Perhaps leaning back towards…

sashh · 17/04/2024 01:51

Sorry but it makes me think of Jacko Vance, a serial killer in a couple of Val McDermid books.

OVienna · 17/04/2024 00:56

I love it. Not the sort if style bud usually go for but I think it's fab.

theduchessofspork · 17/04/2024 00:53

Also Waco Jaco.. not not as a full name

theduchessofspork · 17/04/2024 00:52

It’s a nick name surely?! It’s fine as a nick name but as a full name it sounds a bit like you heard it yelled across a bar

Just call him Jack / John / Jonathan / Jacoby or Jacob and use it as a diminutive

Beachs · 16/04/2024 17:54

useitorlose · 16/04/2024 11:08

My husband works with some South African guys, one is called Jaco pronounced Yaco not Jacko.
