Here are my honest thoughts OP!

Scarlett - some avoid due to connotations of a scarlet woman. Wouldn’t bother me at all but I wouldn’t pick it as I think it’s a name “of its time” eg about 10-20 years ago it was popular, it feels to me.

Sasha - love it. Cool. A bit dated but not in a bad way, I don’t think. Also love Sacha for a boy.

Portia - nice. Elegant and different. Go for this or Sasha!

Dulcie - sounds like a nickname. What’s the full version - if there is one? Also a bit too sweet and girly for me which makes me wonder if your DD will grow into her name or not. My DD so would not have been a Dulcie. We actually changed her likely name when we saw her and realised she was quite spirited and not calm! Cute for a toddler but not so on a CV.

Ottilie - I don’t understand the hype as I can’t read it without reading otter at the start although a lovely name otherwise. Very popular due to an influencer naming her baby this if this bothers you. Pretty though.

Congratulations btw! Not long now!

Thanks for the input. I think I need some better name choices

Sasha is definitely my favourite - short, simple, pretty and a bit cool / edgy too.

Dulcie - pretty sounding, not overused. Possibly a bit twee but no more than many popular names at the moment.

Scarlett - I love it but I couldn’t pull it off personally! It sounds confident, sassy, but not sure it would work for everyone.

Portia - sorry I dislike this one - to me it sounds like someone trying to come up with a posh name and failing (just my opinion, sorry)

Ottilie - not too keen (a little pretentious sounding to me) but I much prefer it to Portia

Ottilie

InTheRainOnATrain · 11/04/2024 18:25

Sasha makes me think Russian and boy
Portia, Americans saying Porsche
Ottilie I love but it’s becoming really popular
Dulcie is nice and more unusual
Scarlett is lovely and despite being a well known name you actually don’t come across it much

Scarlett, Sasha - both nice
Portia - We had Portia on our list (family name).
Dulcie - Dull, see. don't like
Ottilie - otterley. don't like

Scarlett - not that keen personally but it's a good name - well established but not crazily popular, used by all demographics, no silly nicknames.
Sasha - like it. And you don't get many little ones nowadays.
Portia - really don't like this. It's how Americans pronounce Porsche and I can't get that out of my head when I say it.
Dulcie - really cute and I like it for a child. Not sure how it would be to be an adult called Dulcie.
Ottilie - quite like it. Trendy at the moment. I would have assumed an Ottilie had French heritage until a few years ago but not now; it's become popular.

I think I would choose Sasha.

FlyingPizzaMonkey · 11/04/2024 17:55

Sasha is nice.

Not keen on Scarlett, it’s so harsh sounding, and what does it get shortened to at school? Scar?

Ottilie sounds pretentious to my ears (not sure why), it’s also popular and faddy. Will date.

Not keen on Portia or Dulcie, again Portia sounds pretentious.

oldnorsesaga · 11/04/2024 17:52

I like Dulcie and Ottilie the best. Not keen on Sasha and Scarlett cause I see them more trendy and Portia is hard to wear with all Porsche jokes.
What about Romilly or Cecily?
