Help me narrow down my long list

LouMoui · 07/04/2024 13:53

Hi all, excepting a baby girl and have a son named Louis. Our list of girls names is very long and we need helping narrowing it down.
Here's our list

  • Adeline
  • Amelie
  • Annabel
  • Annalise
  • Camille/Camilla
  • Cassia
  • Clara
  • Emmeline
  • India
  • Isabelle
  • Sasha

I think Cassia or Camille are my favourites but DH loves Adeline.

Any thoughts, opinions or other ideas?

Adeline is my favourite on your list. I’d shorten to Ada though.

Cecily is another that would go with Louis.

Twazique · 10/04/2024 13:02

Antonia
Juliana

Clara, Camille or Adeline.

miniaturepixieonacid · 08/04/2024 19:07

Adeline - Quite like it. Addie is a cute shortening
Amelie - Quite like it.
Annabel - Really like it. Less keen on Annie or Bella, I'd try and keep it as a whole name which might not be easy.
Annalise - torn between whether I think this is very 70s and dated or actually really elegant and pretty. Honestly don't know. Maybe it's both.
Camille/Camilla - I like Camilla but not Camille. Don't like the mealy sound.
Cassia - really like it. Also like Cassandra and Cassidy.
Clara - it's ok. Not that keen.
Emmeline - Quite like it. Prefer Emily and Emma
India - really like it. Very pretty and quite unusual, in my experience.
Isabelle - really like it.
Sasha - like it.

I would choose Cassia or India, I think.

Other ideas:
Aurelia, Arabella, Araminta, Amberley, Alexandra, Charlotte, Clarissa, Cordelia, Evangeline, Eleanor, Felicity, Francesca, Georgina, Gabriella, Harriet, Henrietta, Imogen, Juliet, Joanna, Katherine, Lorelai, Larissa, Miranda, Madeleine, Natalia, Octavia, Olivia, Philippa, Rosalie, Rosanna, Sophia, Susannah, Stella, Tamara, Victoria, Zara

@Nicetobenice67 , SUMMER MAE….INDI BLU…RIVER …TIGER are not timeless or classic and IMO not elegant.
Why are you using uppercase for them?

The only one of them that seems usable is Summer Mae (May isn't a Summer month) and makes me think that it sounds like Summer may come or summer may be wet/sunny.

It's mae now may and its my granddaughters name have a lovely evening

Still prefer my names though …modern different timeless

They’re the absolute opposite of timeless. Modern and different in all the worst ways (unless you’re aiming to name your child like one of the Kardashians)

I appreciate what you are saying but you did say any other ideas that’s why I gave those names I also appreciate you don’t like them which you entitled to do…I like INDIA out of the names on your list

  • Adeline - great name
  • Amelie - too similar to the ubiquitous Amelia
  • Annabel - dated, plus it sounds babyish and unimaginative (not to mention it’s the name of a popular doll and a horror movie)
  • Annalise - ew, is that a name?
  • Camille/Camilla - No. Sounds like camel. Very old fashioned and ugly.
  • Cassia - I like it.
  • Clara - I like it.
  • Emmeline - great name.
  • India - really downmarket vibes, sorry.
  • Isabelle - too popular, prefer Isobel/Isabel spelling as they are cleaner-looking and more classic, but still wouldn’t choose as they’re two a penny.
  • Sasha- I do kind of like this. It’s a short form of Alexander, a boy’s name, but I think it’s good for a girl too.

@Nicetobenice67

Those who have commented are right. None of those names are my style.
I think my list is made up of one very specific style and most people have been able to understand that. While I appreciate the ideas, I'd definitely be more open to names in the same style as what I've listed (timeless, elegant, classic).

1 Cassia - glorious name and Cassie is nice as a diminutive
2 Clara

Other ideas

Allegra
Carina
Estella
Ida
Iona
Marianne

  • Adeline - ok - Adelaide nicer, Adela much nicer
  • Amelie - All Amelia names way overdone
  • Annabel - like it, but too many Annie/Annas around
  • Annalise - love it but see above
  • Camille/Camilla - like Camilla but too many Millys
  • Cassia - really love it
  • Clara - like it
  • Emmeline - quite like it, but blurs a bit with Emilia / Emily etc
  • India - not unless you have Indian heritage
  • Isabelle - way overdone
  • Sasha - not as a full name
Darinka91 · 07/04/2024 22:28

My 2 daughters' names are on your list, and I think we have a similar style when it comes to baby names.
Love:
Adeline - timeless, elegant
Annabel - same as Adeline, cute on little girl and I think it ages well, lots of nickname options, but can also go by full name
Clara - classic and beautiful, not frilly, ages very well, also don't hear this name all the time at the playground, soft play etc
Like:
Isabelle- beautiful, but so so popular if that's an issue for you. Lots of variations with different spellings, and lots of Izzy, Belle, Isobel, Isabella and so. If popularity doesn't matter, than it's obviously a very pretty name, there's a reason why it's so popular
Cassia - prefer Cassie though, but then it's not as classic
Annalise - very nice and not over used, but would about people mispronouncing and spelling it
Amelie - same as Isabelle, whilst very beautiful, also incredibly popular with so many little Amelias, Emily's, Emilias and Emmys everywhere
Camilla - lovely classic name

Don't like:

Emmeline - it seems like one of those names that are trying too hard, it's not Emilia or Adeline, or Annabelle, but a combination of them all
Sasha - not feminine enough for me, sounds a bit harsh
India - a bit too Love Island

bluechameleon · 07/04/2024 22:00

I like Adeline, Clara and Emmeline best. I don't really like India or Sasha.

you had no need for reply the way you did or speak on op behalf..op was in favour of new suggestions..and on that note I want no more contact with you

See OP’s update - if you have nothing relevant to say on a thread then don’t say it.

  • Adeline - I like it but prefer Caroline or clementine
  • Amelie - a bit dated, also v similar to the very popular Amelia
  • Annabel - love ❤️ and Annie is so cute as shortened form.
  • Annalise - not sure, reminds me of a neighbours (I think?) character. Marianne is maybe similar vibe which I love.
  • Camille/Camilla - love ❤️, was one of my final 3 for DD
  • Cassia - not sure about this and I’m not sure why 🤔. Feels a bit unfinished somehow. Love Cassie though but I’m not sure what long version is best.
  • Clara - love ❤️, Lara is also beautiful although quite popular now. Laura is also lovely.
  • Emmeline - lovely and I love Emmie as a shortened form
  • India - not sure about this one, not as timeless as some of the others.
  • Isabelle - beautiful but I know quite a few Isabelle/isabellas
  • Sasha - feels a bit unfinished again to me 🤔

a few random suggestions as we have similar tastes I think…
Serena
Louisa
Alice
flora
Claudia
Juliet

Not a fan of the rest sorry

goldenretrievermum5 · 07/04/2024 18:44

Judging by OP’s name list she wants timeless classics. Your suggestions were quite the opposite - that isn’t rude, it’s just fact. One of those may be your granddaughter’s name which is fine if that’s the style her parents were going for.

Cassia

FayCarew · 07/04/2024 19:54

@Bigearringsbigsmile , they are similar. Neither are nice IMO but Aveline is the least bad.

camellia15 · 07/04/2024 19:53

Annabel or Camille are lovely names

Bigearringsbigsmile · 07/04/2024 19:51

HoHoHoliday · 07/04/2024 19:43

@Bigearringsbigsmile She was Aveline.

Well there you go. I was wrong. It still sounds the same to me.

But I'm only offering am opinion as asked to do.
