Martha or Maria?

Martha and Maria are a matching pair - as in the two sisters in the Bible story. But because of that, they also have a different image - Martha the kitchen worker and Maria (Mary) the spiritual one.

I am not keen on Martha. There are loads of early 20s ones. Maria is much more unusual, but I do prefer Mary. You need to choose a pronunciation of Maria as well - Mar-I-a or Mar-EE-a.

Definitely Maria. It's vibrant and elegant.

Martha is such a downtrodden name. It makes me think of sackcloth and drudgery.

Maria- no contest for me. While Maria's not a particular fave of mine, it sounds quite elegant to me and is very timeless and classic (so suits all ages) but has cute, trendier nn’s like Mia or Mai if wanted. Martha goes in and out of fashion and I personally find it quite frumpy sounding.
