Is this a bit dull?

Struggling with boys names. The only name we both think is OK is Edward, but we neither of us love it. I am worried it is a little boring staid. What do you think? (Ned for short).

Also, how popular is it?

I have an Edward! We call him Ted... I love the fact it is not so common a name
DS1 is called Oliver, which has become quite popular now!

exactly!!

Pixie is a sweet enough name but not for a doctor imho.

If she was called Philippa and named Pixie for short then fine, but just to be called Pixie, not fine!

Not at all it is a very nice names with lots of lovely ways to shorten it.

yes I think it is particularly important for girls to have a sort of "serious" name, not too fluffy, in case they want to be a brain surgeon
just a personal prejudice
of course it wouldn't matter if they were a really good brain surgeon, but why make problems

LOL Harpsi....I am obviously not aiming high enough!! Prime Minister!!

I watch the TV prog 'Freaky Eaters' and there is a doctor on there who is very good at her job but is called 'Pixie McKenna' and whenever I hear it I think, 'Oh no. Your mum never thought this through!!'

I am so judgmental about names!

though you can't always tell from that tbh because dd2's isn't on the list and I know 2 others who will be in her school year...

I also love Ned but not keen on Edward, but you then give him the choice when he's older of what he wants to be called.

I don't like it myself but it's quite popular atm. I know a few Eddies and Teds.

I love Ned!

Am not keen on Edward tbh. Think it is very oldfashioned and not what a 15 year old would want to be called.

Ned is cool and travels well through his age I think.

no Edwards in preschool
none in reception or y1
as opposed to say 478392 Sams, Olivers, Jakes and ALfies....

I know one Eddie ( I run children's groups so know a LOT of children)

so I wouldn't say it was very popular

Edward is lovely
my friend has an Edward and we call him Ted, Teddy, Ned, Neddy, Teddy Bear.....
