Is this a bit dull?

Struggling with boys names. The only name we both think is OK is Edward, but we neither of us love it. I am worried it is a little boring staid. What do you think? (Ned for short).

Also, how popular is it?

I really like the name Edward for all the reasons suggested above, and it was top of our list for a long while. I liked Ned as a shorter version but not really any of the others (Ted, Ed, Eddie etc).

HOWEVER, be warned that we found out that Ned is used as a derogatory term North of the border (standing for 'non-educated delinquent' or something like that). It has totally put me off using the name now, partly because we have lots of Scottish friends and I couldn't face the sniggering. If you've got no Scottish connections though I wouldn't let it bother you!

I love the name Edward.

I don't think Edward is boring. It's a lovely name that I would think of using were I to have a boy (and it was my paternal grandfather's first name too, which is nice, but doesn't influence me).

I like names that can be "serious" for if the child grows up to be prime minister, brain surgeon etc or just wants a "grown up name", but that also have established childhood nicknames. Edward/Ned/Ted/Eddie is a brilliant name for this.

My cat is called Eddie but is registered at the vet as Edward Gray-Catt. The vet has a good sense of humour.

EEC - I like Edward a good solid name, classic but not common, he will be surrounded by Connors, Jacks, Callums, Thomas's etc so nice to be a bit different.

I love the name Edward
My brother (14) is an Edward.
I usually still call him Edward, but sometimes Edd (which is also his initials).
At school his friends and teachers call him Edd, or occasionally Eddie (I think).

No no no it's not dull. There is an Edward at our toddler group (he's about 2.6) and it's a cool name. I'm slightly biased though, dh is an Edward (known as Ed) and both suit him (if that makes sense, sorry, not very good at stringing words together today ).

There are no Edwards that I know - HOWEVER DS1's friend is called Ned, it was the first Ned registered at the local office in the last 30 years whilst the lady has worked there.

we have a Edward at our toddler group - he is about 9m.

Personally I don't like it but it fits all the criteria as Maloy Towers has pinted out

Edward is a lovely name.

Not a single one in our infants school (200 pupils)

Only one in our Junior School, 300 pupils.

The one I know (who incidentally is a fantastic child!)is known as Ed usually, also Ted, Teddy.

I prefer Edmund, but that's just me. It still shortens to Ned, Ed, Ted if you want it to.

i know 3 Edawrds.. one is 17 and Eddie. one is 4 and ED, the other is about 19 months and is EDWARD.

I love Ted and Edward is nice better a dull name and an exciting child than the other way round imo.
