What boy names do you think give off cool, trendy vibes? Also names that would work well for all ages.

I think of Ezra.

😁I can definitely see Jem for boys (like in To Kill a Mockingbird) making a big comeback. There aren’t that many Jemima’s about and most Gemma’s are middle aged now so I can see Jem being one of those cool retro boys nn’s now like Kit, Ted, Hal, Cal etc

Yeah I think so, it's a bit more classical with the literary reference as opposed to jett. The jem I know is just a jem I think, not short for james!

Also know a Jem and he's pretty cool!

Agree with pp you could definitely do a classic name but with a cooler (less common) nn:

Alexander (Lex or Xan)
Nicholas (Nico or Cole)
Dominic (Nico)
Edward (Bear like Grylls or Woody like Toy Story?)
Nathaniel (Han like Star Wars?)
James (Jem or Jay)
Henry (Hal)
Charles (Cal)
Oliver (Lev)

Also know a Jem and he's pretty cool!

StampOnTheGround · 04/04/2024 11:48

I think most names with either an X in are fairly cool.

I would avoid the names that are currently trendy, Arlo springs to mind, imagining loads of 70 year old arlos doesn't quite fit 😂
I actually find the coolest people I've known had pretty classic names, or timeless names that have a cool NN, and the ones that had the cool names were actually just not that cool (someone called Bracken at uni for instance). Some ideas - Max, Jay (James), Joey, Bobby (Robert), Kit (Christopher). I've also known lots of cool Harry's.

Remember you are naming an adult. The name needs to travel through their lives

Which names suggested aren’t suitable for adults? They will grow up alongside swathes of Alfies, Teddys, Berties etc. Funnily enough, when they grow up, Bertie will then be a grown up’s name. I’m sure Jude and Jago and Ezra will be just fine.

Bluepangreen · 02/04/2024 12:55

I’d be careful picking a ‘cool’ name. Wayne was once considered cool! Like Wayne, some of these listed are the sort that are getting popular really quickly then might disappear just as fast…Ezra is currently on a steep upwards trend..same as Arlo, Milo, Roman, Bodhi, River. They could end up becoming dated. Although young boys will probably think these are cool, as they are trendy name amongst their peers.

I know, as I stated in the original post - I was a name that works for all ages. I’m aware that a name like “Rocco” might sound cool for a child but not so much in a job interview.

I don’t think Ezra is at all cool.

I guess we just have different associations to the name!

Do you have any suggestions?

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 02/04/2024 00:25

What sounds cool to young boys? At the moment, anything with a z or x or v sound or that ends in an o. Or occupational surnames. Or that has “cool” celeb type associations. But it’s hard to tell how well these type of names might age ( but yes, currently Ezra fits well with its strong Z sound). Names like:

Maverick
Heath
Xander
Arlo
Ivo
Jago
Zack
Max
Hudson
Bennett
Sullivan
Jaxson
