Is this an 'old lady' name?

Lorna Margaret......just found out we are having a girl and this is the name we like, but I've just ben told it is an old lady name!

I knew a girl called Lorna in school and peole used to take the mickey out of her because of her name. Kids can be shallow I know but because of that I do think it is an old fashioned name

as in Lorna Doone? I don't think it sounds old lady, but it is quite old fashioned - not that that's a bad thing. What does it mean?

I like Lorna but not Margaret, it may become her embarassing middle name. just reminds me of Mrs Thatcher.

Yes. And tell the miseryguts who objected that you hope one day she will be an old lady. Your baby that is, not her.

I love Lorna. I think it's a name that suits all ages from baby to old lady.

I do keep thinking of Moody Margaret in Horrid Henry! But it is an infinitely adaptable name.

I have a cousin called Lorna who was born in the 1930s. But names go in and out of fashion. Alice used to be a very old fashioned name but it's come back in.

Lorna is a name I love - I know a really lovely Lorna who is about 35. One of my best friends is Margaret, and she hates it - wants to change her name legally to Maggie, but then you are using it as a middle name so that's fine.

I know a very pretty, feminine, not at all old lady like 27 year old Lorna. I think its a lovely name.

Really like both. I've never understood an aversion to a name because it might be old ladyish anyway. Aren't our girls all going to be old ladies eventually? Think Princess Tiiamii will still be loving her name at 88?

Rubbish it's lovely...like the heroine of the RD Blackmore novel Lorna Doone - a beautiful novel. Just becuase it's old, doesn't make it 'old lady'

There was a girl in my class called Lorna and I didn't much like her and, therefore, the name.

But now I've read this, I think it's lovely

I think that it is lovely. Margaret isn't fashionable at the moment but it is a classic and Lorna can't be pigeon holed by date. It is the old lady names like Hilda, Ruby, Ethel, Elsie and Winifred that dated last time around, that will date quickly again IMO.

not old lady at all - don't be telling people your name choices before baby as everyone will have some form of opinion on it. wait till after then they have to put up or shut up

To me margaret sounds more 'old lady' than Lorna.

Lots of the current very popular names sound old lady to my ear. It's amazing how quickly associations change though. A few years ago I'd have though lily/lilly really old fashioned, but now it sounds quite modern.

Go with what you like!
