Lily

Millie
Liv/Livi
Mia

Anyone have experience with these names? Likes/dislikes?

Lily, Millie and Mia are just bland overused girls names.

I don't understand why you wouldn't give options. Emmeline can call herself Emme or Em or Emmy but Emme can't decide to be Emmeline.

I can’t understand why you would. Nobody needs more than 1 name

Why not though? - If you can shorten a name to make a nickname, why is it seen as unacceptable to lengthen one? In fact with names like Eve/Evie and Anne/Annie, the nicknames are longer.

Surely the whole point of nick names is the person or their friends chooses them - they evolve. Seems like weird to choose a long unusable name then decide in advance what the nick name will be.

Needmorelego · 26/03/2024 21:14

Lily, Mia and Emmy aren't nicknames - they're just regular names.

NuffSaidSam · 26/03/2024 21:07

All fine.

I like Liv/Livi and Emmy best. They're a bit...cooler and a nickname should be cool I think!

Millie, Lily and Mia are all quite popular names and a bit insipid and girlie imo.

Also, be aware that if you pick a very popular nickname and she goes to school with other kids with that name, she'll get called her full name to allow the kids where that's their actual name to not be confused all the time.

I just don’t understand the point in naming a child one name but calling them another. My mother did this to me and I hate it and it causes a surprising number of issues.

Eloraa · 26/03/2024 21:04

They’re all fine. Quite bland and you’ll find several of each in most classes, but there’s nothing wrong with them.

KirstenBlest · 26/03/2024 21:03

Lily - short for Elizabeth? I'd just use Lily. Not keen on other names that would shorten to Lily
Millie - not keen but I like Molly
Liv/Livi - Livia is nice but not Liv or Livi. I see Livid
Mia - short for Maria. I don't like Mia
Emmy - ok short for Emmeline, but I'm not keen on Emmeline, prefer Emma or Emily

Lily - lovely name in its own right.

Millie - lovely as a short version for Amelia / Emily, I personally wouldn’t use it as a full name on the bc

Liv/Livi - nice as a short version of Olivia - again I think it’s a bit informal to use on the bc

Mia - love this as a full name

Emmy - love as a short version of Emily / Emmeline / Emilia. I wouldn’t use as a full name.

Lily and Mia are names in their own right.

We’ve had two ponies called Millie, I don’t like it particularly but better as it is than as a diminutive for Millicent or Camilla.

Liv is awful, though Olivia is lovely.

Emmy means Emmy Lou Harris to me. Emma and Emily don’t need changing.
