Are Ruby and Chloe already dated?

Just wondering. I really like them, but I get the impression that they are getting less popular rather quickly. What's your personal impression?

Chloe was over-popular in the late 1990s so seems dated. Ruby's a popular name for a dog where I am.

I think that although they’ve passed their peak popularity, they’ve stood the test of time and don’t sound too dated to me - I think they’ll stay around in the top 100 for generations as “modern classics”. As someone else said, I don’t think they’re going to dive out of usage rarely to be used again, like some names do. I love both names and would happily call a child one of them.

Still plenty of Rubys around in my experience. It may have peeked in the 2010s but it definitely doesn't feel 'dated' yet.

Chloe is still usable but does feel a bit more dated to me as it was so ridiculously popular in the 90s/00s. Chloe hasn't really been overly popular for the last 15 years or more. You certainly don't hear of too many under the age of 10.

Out of the two, I prefer Ruby. I've worked with a couple of really bitchy Chloes who put me off the name. I imagine it's quite popular among new parents these days, as Chloe has to be one of the top names for 20-30 somethings. So many of the mums at school seem to be Chloe, Sophie or Jess these days.

I wouldn't say so. Yes they were more popular some years ago but they're still good names. They're not dated in the way name like Nigel, Roger, Shirley and Linda are.
I think they're lovely names and pretty timeless. I know Rubys and Shirleys of all ages - young and old

Yup, they’ve aged out again now.

About ten years ago (when I was pregnant) they were massively popular. So I tend to meet tween/teenagers called Ruby and Chloe now.

(I work with children).
