hey guys. Recently came across this name and I've truly fell in love with it and I love that you can have CeCe as a nickname. Curious to as wether people would pronounce it right though.. it's pronounced See-El but I'm worried that people say Seal.. let me know thanks x

I don’t see how it could sound like Seal - the “Elle” sound at the end (just like in Michelle) is pretty clear/emphasised. I suppose some might say “Sy-Elle” instead of “See- Elle” but either way, I wouldn’t think of Seal.

NewName24 · 21/03/2024 22:36

I said it out loud before opening the thread and yes, it came out not that different from 'seal' from me.
As a pp said, sort of S'yel which in my accent comes out as seal.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 21/03/2024 21:58

I don’t especially love the name (not my taste) but I think it’s perfectly fine. I know one and I think most people get the pronunciation right AFAIK. Plus there is far more variety in names now, so an unusual one is not a big deal for a kid imo ( unless it sounds like something rude/very teaseable but Cielle isn’t 🤷‍♀️)

oneinamillieon · 21/03/2024 21:25

sounds like a cleaning product, maybe cicely or cecelia?

Previousreligion · 14/03/2024 09:18

My first assumption was that it said Celie like in The Color Purple. Then I reread and did decide it was probably See-EL.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 14/03/2024 09:06

Sorry OP, I immediately thought of the Lidl brand too.

ChessieFL · 14/03/2024 06:49

Another one thinking it sounds like the name of a contraceptive pill!

IggyAce · 14/03/2024 05:30

CocoPlum · 13/03/2024 11:03

I like Cece but Cielle sounds like a contraceptive pill.

I thought exactly the same.
I say it like you do.

Funderthighs · 14/03/2024 05:17

It makes me think of the Lidl Cien products as other people have mentioned.

SuperstarDeejay · 14/03/2024 04:49

Are you actually called Deedee in real life OP? Because Deedee and Cece in the same family would be pretty awful. Your husband isn't Peepee by any chance?

Beachs · 14/03/2024 04:46

I first read it (granted whilst in a night feed) as chelle as in the shortened version of Michelle. I love CeCe as a nn but you would be condemning her to a life of spelling and pronouncing it for people

RogueFemale · 14/03/2024 01:15

There are other names that can have the nickname Cece. This name - Cielle - is awful in my opinion.

Echobelly · 14/03/2024 01:06

@YouDidntEvenAskIfSheWasThereMoriarty - I thought exactly the same thing!

DramaAlpaca · 14/03/2024 01:06

Fibble · 13/03/2024 11:00

isn't that the name of Lid's own brand leaning range?

It's Cien, but yes that was my first thought too.

RobertaFirmino · 14/03/2024 00:59

Sounds like a contraceptive pill

FirstFallopians · 13/03/2024 14:50

My first thought was “Lidl own-brand hand wash”

CrushingOnRubies · 13/03/2024 14:47

No keen

Cielle reminds of the Lidl cleaning brand as pp have said. And could also be a brand of sanitary products or similar

MiltonNorthern · 13/03/2024 14:44

It's not a name. It's a bastardised spelling of the French word ciel. It's not a good name.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 13/03/2024 14:43

I'd say it like "ciel", the French word for sky.

DontGiveADuck · 13/03/2024 12:09

It sounds like the Lidl cleaning brand.

Moreteaandchocolate · 13/03/2024 11:50

Sorry I’m not keen because it used as a brand name for a couple of things (? Skin care / clothes?) and it’s likely to have pronunciation and spelling issues.

youdontneedtopoo · 13/03/2024 11:17

It doesn't sound like a "real" name to me. Could you have Cecile or Cecily instead if you really need to have CeCe as a nickname? Both beautiful names in their own right.

DuchessOfSausage · 13/03/2024 11:08

Awful, like a cheap make-up brand name. I don't like CeCe either.

YouDidntEvenAskIfSheWasThereMoriarty · 13/03/2024 11:07

My first thought was that it sounds like a contraceptive pill.

MirandaBlu · 13/03/2024 11:07

I've come across it before as a shorting of Gracielle - pronounced either S'yel (one syllable) or see-EL (two). I can kind of see Ciel being mispronounced as seal (by an English speaker), but not Cielle.
