Americans huh? What are they like?

(No offence intended to any sensible Americans posting on here)

Our local football magnate who is American took his kids to an Easter service and his pic is in the paper. His kids are called Brock (boy), MacCall, Avery and Quinn (all girls). These are not first names are they? And they all sound like boys? names to me too.

Oddly enough the dad is called (wait for it?) Andrew.

Madame your second guess was right.

At dd's singing group we have to go round and introduce the children. When we got to this name the teacher went "eerrm right". I felt sorry for the mum but why on earth pick that name for your gorgeous daughter out of all the lovely alternatives?!

An American mum I came across has named her baby after the London borough we both live in. Sorry to criticise other's choices but cringe. Hope for the childs sake they move back to the US soon as it is prob fine over there but to be named after the local council is peculiar to say the least IMO.

names of kids in my (extended) family and of friend's kids:
Tucker, tanner, brandon (x2), jordon, brock,

obviously canadians are afflicted with a similar name illness.

I had a book for Christmas written by an American - fantasy, but set partly in the real world, iyswim. 2 of the main characters are supposed to be Irish, and therefore mystical etc etc, so they're called names that presumably are supposed to sound exotic to American ears, and they're, wait for it, Keith and Ian .

I know ... I read it and pmsl. And "Alternatives" included BRICK???

Imagine yelling out in the playground "Over here, Brick!" Or in later years "Darling Brick", or just "You're a brick, Brick"

Ha ha, lower down on that page detailing info on Brock it suggested BRAXTON as a name.

I always associate Avery with the (weighing) scales manufacturer ...

There was a girl on a US board considering Brogan recently. Brother Braiden. Eurghghghghghghghghghghghghghhghgh to Brogan. Sounds like Bogan!!

It's a bit like two people named Victoria and David having thre boys and calling then Brooklyn, Romeo, and Cruz. I mean God... oh wait... they are English.

My American children and I have very boring normal names indeed.

I like Avery - it's pretty. An American Mum at DS's school had an Ethan and and Avery. Liked both names.

I've never met a Brock in real life but have heard of it. I've also heard Avery for a girl, but never met one in real life. To me Quinn is a boys name (have met many Quinns)

dh wanted to call ds Brock because he looked like a little badger on the second scan!! i liked it - but didn't want him to be teased at school for it.

I have a nephew Brock in Florida. He is 18 months old and at first it seemed a tad......unusual. But having met him, it really suits, which I never would have said( and he's gorgeous)

I know. My son's name is Richie (Richard really) It was an alternative to Archie which I loved but thought it was too common.

This was MOCKED by Americans with children called Roycroft, Langston, Mackett, Hoyt, Tucker...

Just any random sur name basically!
I remain quietly confident that my son has a cool name

Sorry if you're reading this under rated!!! You are a cool American because you like the name Nancy.
