Thoughts on Leonidas as a middle name for a boy
It's either leonidas or Theodore for middle name

I have always loved the Spartan king, Leonidas, as an historical character. After I read the Steven Pressfield's book, "Gates of Fire", about the battle of Thermopylae, I liked him even more. Apparently it was due to be made into a movie with Bruce Willis suggested as playing Leonidas, but "300" beat them to the post. It's a pity because I read that the author wanted him in the role, and he would have been perfect. It would have given him another role to the standard of "The Sixth Sense".

All that aside, I think Leonidas is a fabulous name. But then, so is Theodore.

Chocolate shop in Belgium.

User6761 · 09/03/2024 22:58

I know a young Leonidas! Known by his full name within his family (Greek parents) but as Leo to everyone else. Also know a Lambros, which has a similar vibe maybe (hard to know though as I'm not Greek).

I like it!

Very splendid

Theodore is v overdone

SparkyBlue · 09/03/2024 11:25

No I'd be thinking of the chocolate shop(which I love) so it's a no from me as like a PP said i wouldn't knowingly give my child the same name as a popular brand

fightingthedogforadonut · 09/03/2024 10:56

I think chocolate...

I prefer Theodore - it’s a really smart, timeless name.

Leonidas is the name of a chocolate shop present in France and the Benelux countries I believe, but if you like it go for it.

It's a very, very famous brand of Belgian chocolate sold all over the world. Personally I couldn't knowingly name my baby after a brand (even if the brand is delicious).

No it's awful.

MistyMountainTop · 09/03/2024 10:08

It's a middle name. Use whatever you want, nobody will know what it is!

Previousreligion · 09/03/2024 10:04

My first thought was the Leonids meteor shower.

QueSyrahSyrah · 09/03/2024 09:35

Oooh my favourite chocolate (opened this thread mistakenly thinking it was about chocolate).

VenusClapTrap · 09/03/2024 09:34

Great middle name.

EnterNowhere · 09/03/2024 09:23

I have a family member with this name and goes by Leo :)

MissMelanieH · 09/03/2024 06:26

I love it!
Plus as a middle name if he hates it he can drop it or shorten it to Leo or Leon.

Moreteaandchocolate · 09/03/2024 06:24

I prefer Theodore, but if you love Leonidas then it’s fine for a middle name.

user1492757084 · 09/03/2024 06:23

Very handsome for a boy's second name.
Leonidis is great.
First time I have seen it as an option.

I also like Leonard, Leonardo, Leon, Leo and Leomin.

OhamIreally · 09/03/2024 06:22

Mmmm chocolate

GreenRaven · 09/03/2024 02:47

beAsensible1 · 09/03/2024 02:45

Excellent. Very strong. Really beautiful

AmazingLemonDrizzle · 09/03/2024 02:35

I'd stick to Leon personally

bigyellowTpot · 09/03/2024 02:27

how is it pronounced?

UpsideLeft · 09/03/2024 02:26

I much prefer Theodore

CurlsnSunshinetime4tea · 09/03/2024 02:25

Nothing wrong with Leon.
Unless you have some strong Greek heritage or connection it's a strong no for the Leonidas version from me.

LauderSyme · 09/03/2024 01:58

Leonidas is a fabulous name! Much more original than Theodore, though I do love that too.
