Just that really!

Neither timeless nor classic.

AmeliaSmallhope · 05/03/2024 22:02

Yes Luna is Latin, the name of the personification of the moon, but it’s not a Latin name that’s been widely used.

I’d never heard of it being used as a name for a real person until some time after the Harry Potter films so I’d say it’s more of a trendy / faddy name than a timeless classic.

thecatneuterer · 05/03/2024 21:55

Almost every other female cat coming to our surgery is called Luna (and the rest are called Nala). It's never occurred to me that it was also a name for humans - I'm just so used to it being a pets' name.

Caravaggiouch · 05/03/2024 21:54

No, not remotely. It was the name the midwives said was the trendy new name when my DD was born, she’s 5.

Navyblueblazer · 05/03/2024 21:53

@Laylea well the word itself is very old, Luna was a Roman moon goddess along with Juno and Diana, and it has been used as a girl's first name in some Mediterranean cultures. It's use as a name in English speaking countries is very recent however. I think it would definitely mark her as a baby of her generation. However, it's perfectly pretty and has ancient history and myth associated with it, so I think it's a lot nicer than many other trendy names.

inappropriateraspberry · 05/03/2024 21:44

Makes me think of lunatic.

BresciaBike · 05/03/2024 21:44

Not. At. All.

Moreteaandchocolate · 05/03/2024 21:27

It’s pretty, but trendy rather than classic or timeless, imo.

Kdubs1981 · 05/03/2024 21:16

No

IggOrEgg · 05/03/2024 21:16

I wouldn’t say so, at all, it’s very faddy imo. That being said, if you like it, use it! It’s certainly not an offensive name.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 05/03/2024 21:14

It's a dogs name nowadays. All the female dogs seem to be called Luna near me.

IsThePopeCatholic · 05/03/2024 21:14

No. Neither timeless nor classic.

MonsteraMama · 05/03/2024 21:14

I mean it's the name of the Roman goddess of the moon so... It's not actually modern at all, it's just become very popular in the last decade or so. But yes it's Latin and very old, but I don't think timeless thanks to Harry Potter and the seventy bajillion Staffies called Luna, sadly. Shame because it's a pretty name!

DrJoanAllenby · 05/03/2024 21:13

One of my dearest friends is called Luna! It's a beautiful name.

caringcarer · 05/03/2024 21:12

I know 3 different dogs called Luna so I as aways think of it as a dogs name now. I've never met a human called Luna.

WimpoleHat · 05/03/2024 21:10

No! Sorry, OP.

Comedycook · 05/03/2024 21:09

I love it but it's certainly not classic or timeless. It's the female equivalent or Arlo or Ezra.... everyone will know what time period you were born in!

Luckycloverz · 05/03/2024 21:06

It's pretty but I've only known of cats/dogs having this name, I'd be worried about other children and luna/lunatic mocking sadly.

mitogoshi · 05/03/2024 21:03

Neither timeless nor classic, more hippyish

Toddlerteaplease · 05/03/2024 21:03

No, it's cats name.

Timeless and classic!!! Yes, for a crazy dog. Not for a child!

OP- are you thinking of some other name? Not that I can think of anything similar other than Luca? 🤔

Google told me it is a Latin name, so I thought must be a classic!
