Just that really!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I have a Lucy and we now know 3 dogs called Lucy. My daughter still likes her name 🤷🏻‍♀️ same for Luna really. We also know a cat called Chris.. a budgie called Brian and a tortoise called Desmond 😆

Zephyry · 06/03/2024 21:07

No it's wacky and hippiesh to me!

Daisybuttercup12345 · 06/03/2024 21:06

I know several dogs and one 5 year old girl called Luna.

Nap1983 · 06/03/2024 15:33

sorry but its a dogs name…

KirstenBlest · 06/03/2024 15:32

Most of the dogs I meet are called Luna, Bella, Alfie or Archie. The ones that aren't have quite unusual human names or more traditional dogs' names.

My neighbours have a cute little non-shedding dog with a man's name and a cute cat with a sickly-sweet term-of-endearment name.
It sounds so ridiculous when they call the pets to come in. It always makes me smile.

I have a 10yo dog called Luna and even I am annoyed with how popular it is now as a dog name! :)

It goes in phases.

It's a Latin/Spanish/Italian word, not a name. Girls in ancient Rome were not named Luna.I suppose some people name their child Moon, though...

Classic names tend to be from ancient up to about 100 years ago (not counting puritan weird names, though the virtue names stuck around). Check some classic literature for inspiration. My name has been around for at least 2000 years, it really helps with pronunciation around the world!

Roselilly36 · 06/03/2024 12:26

Pets name to me tbh.

Lauren0000 · 06/03/2024 12:24

Quite popular in the last couple of years in children and dogs

Pacifybull · 06/03/2024 12:00

No.

blushroses6 · 06/03/2024 11:58

It’s lovely but unfortunately I think a pet name now. Last time I went to the vets, with my dog named Luna, the vet said she’d seen three Luna’s in a row!

dizzydizzydizzy · 06/03/2024 11:56

I'm really like it which is surprising since I mainly like old fashioned traditional names like Elizabeth, Lucy, Victoria and Joanna.

I wouldn't see Luna as classic though. The above are.

WasntExpectingSunshine · 06/03/2024 11:54

I work with dogs and there are a lot of dogs called Luna!

gettingolderbutcooler · 06/03/2024 11:52

It's a bit 'Harry Potter' to me.

KirstenBlest · 06/03/2024 11:46

@Alltheyearround
I know you didn't ask but here are some lovely moon related names possibly more timeless and classic apart from Meridian and Mizuki which I just really took a shine to.

Mizuki
Sylvia - not moon-related
Selena
Lucille - not moon-related
Celeste
Cordelia - not moon-related
Elara - not moon-related, other than it's the name of a moon of Jupiter
Larissa - not moon-related
Meridian - not moon-related
Miranda - not moon-related

NigelHarmansNewWife · 06/03/2024 11:12

It's the Spanish word for moon to me. I wouldn't use it for a child in the same way I wouldn't use Star, Dawn, Summer, etc.

emmylousings · 06/03/2024 10:58

Its popular for dogs!

Yozzer87 · 06/03/2024 10:54

Sorry, I really dislike it. It reminds me of loony. I can also think of at least 1 dog with this name.

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 06/03/2024 10:52

For a dog where I am it seems to be

scoliworrier · 06/03/2024 10:50

Mind you, people call their dogs people names like Nigel. So maybe it doesn't matter. Except that always seems to be done slightly ironically

scoliworrier · 06/03/2024 10:49

Lovely name. But every other dog I know seems to be called Luna, so regretfully, no.

jonnyjanetkeogh · 06/03/2024 10:48

I have a Luna. She is 13 and named after the Lucy Schwartz song. We are not Harry Potter fans at all and never realised there might be that connection until our daughter started school. She however loves Harry Potter and is very proud of the fact she shares a name with one of her favourite characters in it. When we named her we had lots of people say the same thing you're getting on here about potential bullying and pets names. 13 years in I can say nobody has had any issue with our Luna's name. Not at all. We do now know several people with cats, dogs and horses named Luna but it's never bothered us or or daughter. Why would it? We have a cat with a 'person name'. When we call to our cat we don't expect a bunch of women and children to come running all confused Wink Luna is a beautiful name and it is much older than mumsnetters would have you think, it really is a beautiful name and our girl has only ever had compliments on her name. I am so glad we chose it- though I am glad we chose it in a year when it wasn't at all popular but that's personal preference.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 06/03/2024 10:32

It goes in phases.

LenaLamont · 06/03/2024 10:31

Isn’t it just Latin for the Moon? So very ancient as a word, not so much as a first name.

Mazuslongtoenail · 06/03/2024 10:25

It’s a lovely name but very of the moment and very popular with pets.
