Just thought I would tell you that my DD is called Lila and I think it is a fab name. I just thought I'd post as people are always asking for ideas and I always want to say Lila but don't as it is a relatively uncommon name and would identify me.

So I thought I would name change just the once to give you all the benefit of my good taste

Feel free to use it!

Actually Lila is not so uncommon nowadays; it seems to have been trending up fast in the last decade:
baby girl name Lila (popularity chart)

3andnomore · 19/07/2008 16:28

Lila means purple in german....pronounced Leelah....

totalmisfit · 19/07/2008 13:19

i like it but it makes me think of that Oasis song from a few years back 'Hey, Lila, your star's about to fall... hey Lila the world around us makes me feel too small' and other nonsense lyrics.

MumtoLila · 19/07/2008 13:15

Bumping again to give everyone the benefit of my excellent taste and to hear everyone say what a fab name my DD has

But just in case anyone needs any inspiration...

I'm hoping to start a Lila movement!

I worked with someone whose DD was Leila but pronounced as your Lila. I always thought Leila was pronounced Lay-la but in this case that is wrong! pretty name

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 16/04/2008 18:00

My daughters name is Evelyn. Lila was my "would love to but..." name because my surname rhymes with Moss so thought it would be too odd! My second choice was Gabriella. I also went through a stage of wanting Aurora though was pg at the same time as Britney and read in a trash mag that she wanted to use the name if she had a girl, so vetoed it!

ChutneyMary · 16/04/2008 17:56

Pretty name. It's Trinny Woodall's DDs name too.

PrePG · 16/04/2008 17:49

I love Lila (and Layla for that matter) but our last name is crap and starts with an Ly and I love Daphne as well! Good choices!

I didn't realize it was arabic, and that makes me want to use it even more My name is arabic as well (Farah) and although I'm not of arabic descent, I think it would be cool to have a daughter whose name was of the same origin.

LittlePeanut · 12/04/2008 14:24

Beautiful name. Wanted it myself but it doesn't go with our surname.

CoteDAzur · 12/04/2008 14:21

Lila/Laila - Arabic name meaning "night".

Very pretty. I know a 1 yr old Lila.

cyteen · 12/04/2008 11:51

It's very pretty, although sadly always makes me think of that rubbish Oasis song now

shaqpe · 11/04/2008 22:19

LOVE this name. when pregnant with DS i chose Tyler Jay for a boy and Lila May for a girl. If future #2 is a girl, unfortunately I won't really be able to use the name (Tyler and Lila?? Nooo) lol. But it's GORGEOUS.

UniversallyChallenged · 09/04/2008 22:06

lovely name

ismisemama · 09/04/2008 22:05

Hi my dd's name is lila, I love it ,called her after my gran who was elizabeth and called lila for short

pedilia · 26/03/2008 20:14

Well DH likes it so currently one of our top 3 contenders.
Thanks mumtolila!

Alishanty · 26/03/2008 09:06

I really like it. Unfortunately we cannot have it if we have a girl as it doesn't go with the surname. I prefer it to Lola in fact.

My neice is called Lila; she is French, I thought it a French name? French for Lily?

JodieG1 · 25/03/2008 23:18

I do like the name but it always reminds me of the psycho lady in Dexter now.

WelliesAndPyjamas · 25/03/2008 22:17

it means 'night' or 'midnight' in arabic, iirc

Ledodgy · 25/03/2008 22:16

Ja9 that's how I decide on the names of my children I do the card test and the pub test. Card test is how the names sound together on a card and the pub test is imagining meeting a man/woman they like when they are 20 in the pub and they say Hi my name is... if it sounds nice and grows with them it's a keeper.

MumtoLila · 25/03/2008 22:14

We considered Delilah but decided that we would never use it, and I myself have a longer name that no-one ever uses and it's a bit weird.

It is a pain that lots of people don't know how to pronounce it (it's Lie-la) but that's the thing about choosing unusual names. According to the name wizard it was most popular in the 30s, though still unusual.

I'm not sure about the origins of the name, I only know that I heard the name from the Sweet Valley High books I read as a teenager and just really liked the name (despite the character being a bitch!). Jeez, I'd better come up with a better story than that when she asks!

I love it
We are really struggling for girls names for DD who is due in June.
It will be interetsing to see what DH thinks of this, will let you know tommorrow!

suwoo · 25/03/2008 22:08

Lila rocks. I think people have been put off by the fact that Kate Moss called her DD Lila, that it might go the way of the Beckhams et al.

ja9 · 25/03/2008 22:07

lilac? not so sure about that...

ledodgy - the card test ?
