Not sure on a name

Hello everyone, I'm not here for nasty comments but honesty is key for me!

We are expecting our second boy and my husband LOVES the name Maverick.

I've looked into this and I know it's a popular name in America currently although I've never heard of anyone called Maverick.

I do not currently like any boy names that I can think of. I'm a teacher and all the names I don't mind, I know of children who have just put me off them!

I do like different names but I also don't want it to be silly.

There's obvious connections to Top Gun (which me and my husband have always loved, especially original.)

Is it ridiculous? Because I can't decide if it is or not!

He would be Mav for short.

I like the sound of it, but doesn’t maverick sort of mean rebel? Love the nn Mav though, and if you don’t mind the meaning of the word it could potentially be a good name.

How about Marvin, nn Marv?

Other ideas -

Marlon (nn Marl)
Roderick
Hudson
Asher
Everett

To me it sounds like one of those names where you hope their personality lives up to their name, if you see what I mean? Like Honor, Grace etc...
Except you want him to be a maverick.

Names are funny things. What fits for you is wrong for others.

Don’t do that to a child.

PickledScrump · 28/02/2024 19:36

Honestly, it is a bit ridiculous for a child. Great name for a pet, but a person who has to go through life, school, job interviews, a career. Imagine sitting in a doctors waiting room and them calling Maverick.

i liked some weird choices while pregnant, I’m was relieved I never went with them after the birth.

It's not even well liked in America.

It’s fine as a name, not my taste but my dc does have a predominantly American name that wouldn’t be liked on mumsnet.
