Down to our final two names on the shortlist and desperate to give this girl a name! Any thoughts or opinions to help?

Clara. Poppy is a cute name for a kid but I don't think it suits a grown woman.

FlangeBoil · 24/02/2024 08:33

I like Poppy. My younger sister is Poppy, she's quite alternative in the way she dresses and styles herself and honestly it works really well. She's 15 now (large age gap!) but it's grown nicely with her.

Clara is fine, it's not a name I'd chose but there's absolutely nothing wrong with it, I know a few baby/toddler Clara's.

Not mad on Clara but god, not Poppy. Its dreadful.

DontGiveADuck · 24/02/2024 08:03

Clara.

Really don’t like Poppy it’s so twee. Plus it’s one of those names that always gets hyphenated with the filler names of Rose/May/Grace.

Bluegetaniums · 24/02/2024 07:54

Clara

Really dislike Poppy - it sounds like Poppet and is only one letter away from Poopy.

Same I’ve never liked the name Clara but poppy I love and it’s a possible name for my daughter

Poppy ❤️

I prefer Clara but I think Poppy makes a lovely nickname for Penelope, as I hate Penny!

LittleDoveLove · 24/02/2024 07:03

Clara, not a huge fan of Poppy it seems eternally young to me

Clara. The head of my department is called Poppy and I always think it's such an unserious name.

CrazylazyJane · 24/02/2024 06:22

My adult sister is called Poppy and I think it really suits her. She's quite quirky Grin It can definitely transfer and work well as a young woman's name.

However, I utterly adore the name Clara and would call my own daughter that if I had one. It's easy to spell, most people have heard of it but it's not super common.

Clara,it has longevity, unfortunately my sister's first dog was Poppy, also I have known a couple of other dogs/cats called Poppy so Clara for me.

Onelife2024 · 24/02/2024 05:02

I love the name Clara - to me it sounds classic yet modern and fresh, and it’s short, simple, pretty, ages well and isn’t over used.

I also have a soft spot for the name Poppy, I’ve met some young adult Poppy’s recently and it’s changed my opinion on it, as I can now picture it working well for adults too. It’s got a happy, sparky feel to it, imo.

However, I would probably still choose Clara of the two.

PivotPivotmakingmargaritas · 24/02/2024 03:42

Clara - agree with others Poppy is gorgeous on a baby, young child but doesn’t age well as she grows up

Whereinharrogate · 24/02/2024 03:25

Clara

MariaVT65 · 24/02/2024 03:24

Another vote for Clara. Poppy to me is a bit wet but I also associate it with a dog I knew called Poppy.

Flatandhappy · 24/02/2024 03:23

Clara!

DramaAlpaca · 24/02/2024 03:10

Anything but Poppy. Anything.

Clara is nice. It's classy, elegant - the complete opposite of the twee, cutesy Poppy.

fluffycatkins · 24/02/2024 02:59

Another Clara, it is classier and has more longevity as name than Poppy.
Poppy is cute but doesn't age that well.
