Down to our final two names on the shortlist and desperate to give this girl a name! Any thoughts or opinions to help?

Clara! Dd might have been Clara if surname didn’t begin with C lol

I love the name Poppy, I have a teenage Poppy and it really suits her, she is often complimented on her name.

Clara

The first time I met someone called Poppy she was an adult, so I don't particularly think of it as a childish name.

Poppy personally. I think Clara is such an old-fashioned name, but not in a classy way, just something no one uses because it's so dull.

I also only think of Clara in Barbie and the Nutcracker and it's just such a childish and young name.

I think Poppy transfers to adulthood much better, and sound like a full person rather than just a baby name. It could be my age though as I know a lot more Poppy's in there 30s and 40s.

I’d agree with PPs that this is an unusual view

But anyway Clara is pretty popular

Clara

Poppy is dreadfully drippy

Throwawayme · 24/02/2024 14:03

Clara is my name and I love it! Poppy is gorgeous too though.

SilverSimca · 24/02/2024 14:01

Clara a million times. Poppy makes me think Ploppy.

I think a lot of people will disagree with that. Poppy sounds very twee and like calling someone Poppet.

CillaDog · 24/02/2024 13:49

@MaloneMeadow

Absolutely fine. As I say, I think it's an age thing)m. Girls I went to school with called Poppy have good careers and families and it just seems very mature.

I don't know any Clara's that aren't babies, and I just feel that it's not very adult-y.

Generational I suppose.

I think the vast majority would highly disagree with you on all of those points

Bluegetaniums · 24/02/2024 13:29

How about Clare? Simple, beautiful and underused these days

KirstenBlest · 24/02/2024 13:17

Poppy. I only like Clara said as Clair-a. Cara is much nicer than Clara
I don't like the 'Cl'

MaloneMeadow · 24/02/2024 13:13

Clara 100% - beautiful, elegant and timeless

We have a (dog) Poppy and genuinely there isn’t a day that goes by where I don’t regret and cringe at her name..

FlatWhite2 · 24/02/2024 10:35

Poppy!

amz4 · 24/02/2024 10:33

Clara 😊

Clara

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 24/02/2024 09:40

Poppy by a billion miles.

Pemba · 24/02/2024 09:37

Clara, although I prefer the old British pronunciation, where it rhymes with Sarah, but everyone seems to say Klah-ra these days. An attractive name anyway.

Poppy is cute but a bit juvenile. Plus I have recently discovered that 'poppy' is how many people address their grandfathers in North America, so over there you'd find it's like naming your daughter Grandad!

Nicebloomers · 24/02/2024 09:28

Clara

WildCherryBlossom · 24/02/2024 09:19

Clara! It's beautiful. I've liked it ever since I first read Heidi.

There are so many little girls (and labradors) called Poppy. 3 in one of my DCs classes alone.

I prefer Clara but if it's down to two you could wait till she's here and see if she suits one better than the other?
