Down to our final two names on the shortlist and desperate to give this girl a name! Any thoughts or opinions to help?

Is that how you pronounce your name? I've never come across Clara being pronounced like that.

Yes- it might be Scottish as I have some relatives from there!

The latter! Like Claire- a.

Clara (pronounced Clah-ra) is lovely.

There are are trillion Poppies around now. It's very over done.

Nicebloomers · 24/02/2024 19:05

Congratulations!

NamelessNinja · 24/02/2024 19:01

Wow I didn't expect so many replies and polarising opinions! 😂 Thanks all, opinions were very helpful.
We've settled on Clara 😊 very happy the decision is made and she is no longer nameless!

I disagree that Poppy doesn’t age well, it’s so popular that it will be associated with adults before long. It’s a nice name.

That said I would go for Clara because it’s less popular, there are Poppys everywhere. Clara is lovely and underrated imo.

@NamelessNinja

Will you pronounce it Clar-a (first syllable to rhyme with far)
Or
Clar-a (first syllable to rhyme with where)

The latter! Like Claire- a.

ClarasZoo · 24/02/2024 18:17

I think you know my answer!

dammit88 · 24/02/2024 18:14

Clara to me sounds uptight and and a bit dull. I like Poppy - it is 'sweet' but its pretty and my favourite of the two.

Lifestooshort71 · 24/02/2024 18:07

I'm old and Clara to me is elegant and classy. My mother used to say, can you see a person with that name as Prime Minister (as in, don't narrow their horizons from the start) but then she didn't live to see Boris in power.

Of course but I hear the name Clara and I can hear the voice of the Barbie character and how soft and girlie and young it sounds.

I suppose it's similar for people and hearing the name Danny and thinking of Danny Zuko/John Travolta in Grease.

Hence why names preferences are so personal!

Fair enough! That makes sense now.

You're right, it's all individual.

Clara.

(And I do hope the pp reminded of it knows that the Nutcracker ballet pre-dates the Barbie version by over a century! I don't think Clara from the Nutcracker is a bad association.)

Clara is gorgeous, really dislike Poppy

Another Clara vote. I also agree that Poppy doesn't age well and is very much a baby/little girl name.

I always imagined my children introducing themselves at a job interview when choosing their names 🤣

ISeeTheLight · 24/02/2024 16:18

Clara. Much more elegant. Also works internationally so if child ever would want to move abroad it would work much better than Poppy. Don't like Poppy at all personally, it's fine for a dog/cat or a 2 year old but not a grown woman with a career.

DarkDarkNight · 24/02/2024 16:14

Clara. I like Poppy too but Clara is one of my favourite names.

Grumpynan · 24/02/2024 16:11

Clara, it suits a child/adult/elderly in all walks of life. Poppy to me sounds like a hippy aunty that could be because I’m a 60’s child 😂

but Clara is so pretty

WeAreWarriorsWeAreWarriors · 24/02/2024 16:07

Clara for me.

buswankerz · 24/02/2024 15:52

Poppy is much nicer than Clara

Queenofcheesesandwich · 24/02/2024 15:51

Poppy is awful. Better suited to a dog or pet budgie.
Clara is OK.
Both a bit twee.

Bluegetaniums · 24/02/2024 15:45

Poppy doesn't travel well either - it sounds like an American grandad - Popps or Poppy
