Birdie?

Is ‘birdie’ okay for a girl? I’m not too sure on the name extended e.g. birdette but I love it for a baby girl!

My mother thinks it’s a cruel name and that it could subject her to bullying?

Please help!!!!

Birdie?
Ernie?

is this actually Benny Hill’s ghost posting.

mathanxiety · 24/02/2024 15:45

You could name her Bernadette, nn Birdie.

Birdette would be a little silly.

Bernadette has a cool, clunky vibe imo.

I'm chortling at the people suggesting Bridie.

It's such a granny name in Ireland, and not in a good way.

Everyone in Ireland aged 40 and over has an aunt Bridie. My mother had two.

mathanxiety · 24/02/2024 15:38

It's a cute nickname for Bridget, if you wanted a more 'formal' name on the BC.

I think it's a lovely name (I also like Bonnie).

There is no name that will bully proof your child.

AmusedMaker · 24/02/2024 15:14

I’m a Bridget nn Bridie. I’ve often been called Birdie as people read Bridie and just see Birdie. I’ve got used to it and actually like it. 😄

I loved Ernie for a boy

The fastest milkman in the west?

😂

Soowoo · 24/02/2024 15:06

No to Birdie. How about Biddy?

user1492757084 · 24/02/2024 13:19

My great aunt had a fun friend called Birdie who rode a motor bike and had a wall mirror collection so it seems perfectly normal and lovely to me. My Birdie went to boarding school, was clever, told funny stories, had a beautiful garden and went to the horse races often. Was it anick name? I don't know.

Pieceofpurplesky · 24/02/2024 02:15

I like it.
But then I like Bridie, Bridget, Kizzy, Hester, Rosalie and Betsy (I think it's my Romany blood - although I draw the line at Esmerelda (a great aunt!))

Yellowsubmarineunderthesea · 24/02/2024 00:34

No no no no and no. Seriously, please do not call any poor child Birdie

@MrsJellybee I am still traumatised by that programme too! And the book but particularly the creepy series.

serin · 24/02/2024 00:01

Oooh very Kin!
I don't like it but I think Bridget is a strong and cool name. Especially when my mother says it in an Irish accent.

Unless you're currently incubating this baby by sitting atop an egg in a nest, then no.

😂😂

I don’t know it sounded slightly better and also people have diff opinions x

SunnyFog · 22/02/2024 19:45

I like it as a nickname but it is like Bertie, Bertha, Brede, Bríd, Bridie. I don't know why I dislike those names, it's irrational.

LieutenantJumboJr · 22/02/2024 13:43

Its one of the worst suggestions I've ever seen on here

Darklingthrush123 · 22/02/2024 13:18

There’s a book about a dollshouse by Rumer Godden with a Birdie in it. She is a doll though. I agree that you could use it as a nickname but it’s not really fair to call someone that as their official name. They don’t stay babies / small children. Most of your life is as an adult with a job.

Babytalkx · 22/02/2024 13:16

That’s my sisters name or I probably would’ve done that!
