HELP!! Baby boy names!

Elle20244 · 20/02/2024 13:40

Hello All!

I need help desperately. I am pregnant with baby no.3. We don't know what we are having. We have our girls name picked out, that is no problem. We are in desperate need of a boys name that we both love.

We already have 2 children, a boy named Frederick who goes by Fred and our little girl Evelina.

Some names we love but are not sure on to give an idea of our 'style'-
Ziggy
Osmond/Ozzy
Elwood/ Woody
Rudy
Sonny

It really needs to be unique, I love Fred's name but there is 4 in his class so we opted for a more unusual choice in Evelina and so far haven't come across another.

I feel like I have been through every baby list, forum, youtube videos and book going and nothing seems to fit. Please help!

Definitely nothing wrong with Ziggy! Weird how triggered the previous poster was by that.

What about:
Dexter
Axel
Fergus
Wilbur
Sidney

Porfirio · 20/02/2024 18:20

Your existing children have lovely names.

I don't like any of these other than Sonny.

Ziggy
Osmond/Ozzy
Elwood/ Woody
Rudy
Sonny

A couple I used to know before they emigrated to Australia wanted wacky names but they settled on their son being Obi as the dad was a Star Wars fan and the name as a stand alone name suited the boy.

They wanted Elvis for their next baby but she was a girl so they called her Elvi which also suits her and she's a pretty girl.

I think it's more common in Australia to have unusual names so perhaps get some ideas by looking at name lists from
Australia.

DuchessOfSausage · 20/02/2024 17:54

You'll only get a unique name if you make one up. Your list is not made up of unique names.

my daughter isn’t Evie and never has been. Just Evelina Not yet.

EbbasFleet · 20/02/2024 17:39

Taren/ Ren
Torin
Rex
Jago
Quinn
Dashiell

DuploTrain · 20/02/2024 17:34

What about Montague if you don’t like Montgomery?

Pacifybull · 20/02/2024 17:29

I think you need a name that is both traditional but underused. I think it would be odd to have a Freddie and a Ziggy.

Conrad
Rudolph
Bertram
Caspar
Vincent

DuchessOfSausage · 20/02/2024 16:33

Ziggy - Ezekiel nn Zeke
Osmond/Ozzy - Oswin nn Ozzy
Elwood/ Woody - not sure I'd want to be called either of those
Rudy - ok
Sonny - seems like a nickname. He won't be a little boy forever.

*It really needs to be unique, I love Fred's name but there is 4 in his class so we opted for a more unusual choice in Evelina and so far haven't come across another.

Neither seem unusual. Lots of Freddies and Evies.

I want a unique option because I hate how many Fred’s there are, that’s the point I was making!

Frederick, Evelina and….

Rufus
Reginald (Rex)
Vincent
Austin
Spencer
Victor
Cassius
Redvers
roland
orson
leopold
leonard

Onelife2024 · 20/02/2024 17:11

How about Koby? A great, underused name imo.

Bobskeleton · 20/02/2024 16:51

My baby boy is an Ozzy. I would imagine it divides people but I don't care, I love it!

I also really like Rudy.

There are all sorts of names out there these days so go with what you love.

FlatWhite2 · 20/02/2024 16:39

Ziggy is cute & tbh in 20 years when he’s joining the world of work, there will be very few ‘Stephen’s’ And lots of Bodhi/Ziggys so times definitely are changing. A few suggestions:

Otto
Hudson
Atlas
Bodhi
Raffa

name your baby what you want x

greendaisie · 20/02/2024 16:34

How about
Rufus
Quentin
Magnus
Darius

DuchessOfSausage · 20/02/2024 16:33

Ahhh congrats OP!
love your name taste and majority are on my list too.
a few more suggestions:
Austin - Ozzy
Oslo- Ozzy
Rhodes
Wilfred
Atticus
Sullivan
Jasper

oldnorsesaga · 20/02/2024 15:26

What about Cedric

I like previous suggestion of Gideon
Other ideas:
Nestor
Valerian
Thierry
Caspian
Gustav
Lucius
I suggest some dated names... many of those are on some old timey gentlemen, but are unusual among babies
Gerald - you can opt for Welsh Geralt
Gareth
Peter
Gregory
Jeremy
or some of more unusual European ones that maybe seem feminine - Sylvan, Lucian, Florian

shoopshoopdedoo · 20/02/2024 14:52

Also came to suggest Raymond/Ray! And I love PP suggestions of Monty and Wilbur.

Personally, I’m not keen on Ziggy as a standalone name, and it seems quite different from your other children’s names (not that that matters really). But I am v much warming to the idea of it as a shortening for Sigmund…

How about Barnaby, Sidney, Hector?

Nicebloomers · 20/02/2024 14:21

Ernest
Gideon
Franklin
Sebastian
Augustine
Abraham
Garrett
Raymond

EnterNowhere · 20/02/2024 14:17

I really like Rudy (would poss spell Rudi) & Sonny, I would say Sonny is slightly more popular where I am.

What about Dashiell "Dash", Otis, Otto, Rafe, Cassius, Rex, Zeke, Archer, Bowie. I know none of these are massively unusual but probably not overly common either and all reasonably recognisable.

I like your choices .. only thing is Osmond reminds of The Osmonds ( who l still love)
Some of my choices.
Erik.
Leif.
Odin.
Loki.
Magnus.
Espen.
Ivor.
Ivan.

That's what's holding me back with Osmond, thank you some great ideas to run by the husband!

Did you know Ziggy was originally a nickname for Sigmund (as in Sigmund Freud) ?

It sort of fits the old man nickname trend like Albie for Albert, Laurie for Laurence trend.

Rudy short for Rudolph is similar (but I have a hard time overlooking the reindeer in its full version).

Oscar or Henry would be nice but they are more popular.

Love the long version of Ziggy, that's amazing. I also thought the same about reindeers ahah.
Thank you for your help!

I can name my child what I like

I sometimes wish we were one of those countries that has an approved list of names, and won't allow people to name babies really stupid names like Ziggy.

Fully agree with this. Ziggy just screams ‘I have self centred parents who are trying too hard to be cool’

OP, your two other children’s names are lovely. Don’t saddle no.3 with something ridiculous for life

How about the name Remy? If you can look past the ratatouille association!

This is actually on our girls name and I hadn't thought about using it for a little boy!
