HELP!! Baby boy names!

Elle20244 · 20/02/2024 13:40

Hello All!

I need help desperately. I am pregnant with baby no.3. We don't know what we are having. We have our girls name picked out, that is no problem. We are in desperate need of a boys name that we both love.

We already have 2 children, a boy named Frederick who goes by Fred and our little girl Evelina.

Some names we love but are not sure on to give an idea of our 'style'-
Ziggy
Osmond/Ozzy
Elwood/ Woody
Rudy
Sonny

It really needs to be unique, I love Fred's name but there is 4 in his class so we opted for a more unusual choice in Evelina and so far haven't come across another.

I feel like I have been through every baby list, forum, youtube videos and book going and nothing seems to fit. Please help!

I guess Iggy is Ignatious?

Apollo365 · 21/02/2024 10:34

There is a Iggy on New Amsterdam. I thought that was nice.
like Rudy and Remi

rainywednesday34 · 21/02/2024 10:31

Love the name Rudi

pontipinemum · 21/02/2024 10:28

Osmond/Ozzy
Elwood/ Woody

I think both of these would work. Although I did think of Elle Woods from legally blonde but I'm very sure an early 00s romcom will not be much of an issue for a baby born in 2024 😂

I don't like Ziggy, Rudy or Sonny compared to your other children's name they feel full enough

Laurance is a great name, it's been used in my family already for this generation so we wouldn't but there are a few going back.

I love Benedict but DH didn't

Orson
Atlas

There isn't a lot you can do about you DD being shortened in future. I had a friend in school 'Annabelle' we called her Anna her mum would correct us every time. She wanted to be called Anna at school, so that's what we called her. Usually forgot around her mum and got corrected again. In a very stern voice, 30s now and still Anna!

Haven't read all of the responses, but i'm really surprised by some I've read, if I met an adult named Ziggy, my only thought would be "what a cool name". I love Ozzy too, you could possibly use it short for Austin if you dont want to go down the Osbourne route?
I'm definitely not a traditional name lover.

Ha are you an SJ Strum fan perchance? She’s a YouTuber/instagrammer baby name consultant and 2 of her kids are Frederick and Evelina. Her other boy is Fin!

I found her when i was pregnant with Evelina! Which is obvs where I found the name.
I didn't realise her older son was Frederick for a while aha😂

Frederick (Fred) and Evelina just seem so “normal” for want of a better word, compared to your choices for DC3 that it makes it hard to make suggestions that aren’t a strange fit with your other DC names - but I understand you don’t want anything as popular as Frederick again. Frederick and Evelina feel kind of retro elegant to me so maybe:

Abraham or Bertram (Bram)
Edmund
August
Claude
Phillip ( Pip)
Benedict
Laurence (Laurie)
Maximilian ( Maxim)

There was only 60 babies named Evelina the year she was born and roughly the same last year so I'd really love to find something similar that sits similar.

Frederick was a family name so we never really questioned it but I hate how there's so many, gets very confusing at the park/parties and other social interactions.

Love the suggestions

I love your list OP, including Ziggy. I gave my son an unusual name because my husband and I loved it and it’s no issue. In fact, I feel baby announcements these days are more likely to be names I’ve never heard used before.

I like Osmond and Sonny from your list. How about Oxford/Ox, Leonard/Lenny or Sidney/Sid?

MaloneMeadow · 20/02/2024 13:43

You absolutely cannot name a child Ziggy. There’s unique and then there’s just being selfish on a child who has to carry that with them for life.

There’s a Ziggy in one of my little boys classes 🤷‍♀️

tellstales · 20/02/2024 23:07

Ziggy is an absolute embarrassment of a name. Don't do it OP. It's so try-hard it's pathetic.

Hohofortherobbers · 20/02/2024 22:45

I like ziggy, I remember him in grange hill.
How about Siegfried, nn Ziggy?

BigBoysDontCry · 20/02/2024 22:41

Barnaby/Barney

Axel?

I have a Sullivan which is pretty unheard of, he's nearly 10 now.

Bodhi
Elvis
Ferdinand
Beckett
Everett
Griffin
Dalton

Dalton, Griffin and Bodhi are all on my imaginary 3rd sons list...

FWIW I think Ziggy is just fine!

sonshineandshowers · 20/02/2024 22:20

Rett is a syndrome

Hushabyelullaby · 20/02/2024 21:28

Barrett nn Rett

Kazimir nn Zimmi/Miri

Zahir nn Zirri

Samir nn Zimmi

Zuberi nn Zuby

Girlontherailreplacementbusservice · 20/02/2024 21:14

Nathaniel - Nate, Nat or Natty for short.
Montague rather than Montgomery as a 'full' name for Monty.
Edmund or Edgar that can be used in full or can be Ed, Eddie, Ned, Ted for short.
Oswald nn Ozzy

Why does it matter to you so much that there is no other child with your son’s name? It is a selfish move from parents who get a kick out of being ‘yoonique’ and I’ll stand by that. A 20 year old Ziggy wanting a professional career is going to stand out like a sore thumb, and not for the reasons you want it to.

I also think Ziggy is silly, but in fairness to Op, I have one of the most common names of 80s babies and I have always hated being one of 4 in my school class or at work.

How about something like Julian, or Florian?

We have a Laurence which fits with your other children's names.

Not a unique name but a lot of people comment on how unusual it is in his age group. We have only ever met one other little Laurence who went by Larry and his parents had also never met another little Laurence.

I have a Laurence/ Laurie. He is in his 20s and we have never met another one . Obviously absolutely love his name,
