HELP!! Baby boy names!

Elle20244 · 20/02/2024 13:40

Hello All!

I need help desperately. I am pregnant with baby no.3. We don't know what we are having. We have our girls name picked out, that is no problem. We are in desperate need of a boys name that we both love.

We already have 2 children, a boy named Frederick who goes by Fred and our little girl Evelina.

Some names we love but are not sure on to give an idea of our 'style'-
Ziggy
Osmond/Ozzy
Elwood/ Woody
Rudy
Sonny

It really needs to be unique, I love Fred's name but there is 4 in his class so we opted for a more unusual choice in Evelina and so far haven't come across another.

I feel like I have been through every baby list, forum, youtube videos and book going and nothing seems to fit. Please help!

Some people on here are just looking for an argument!
I wonder if some of the parents commenting actually have children at school age who hear the variety of names there are now, or actually have jobs where are offices full of names, from around the world. If you think in 20 years a child called Ziggy won’t get a job, what rock are you living under?

Hayes

Milo
Jagger
Lockie (Lachlan)

I was going to suggest Sigmund instead of Ziggy.
Also, Montague instead of Montgomery.

I think you need a name that's slightly northern or eastern European to go with Frederick and Evalina. Or a classic name that's unusual.

I'm not keen on Sonny because you may as well call him Boy, but your choice.
Sigmund is a great name, though.

Swindon?

Hopefully joking, either that or you haven’t visited Swindon 😬😅

ohmyohmy123 · 21/02/2024 22:51

From your list I like Elwood - different nickname options too for him to choose. El, woody, woods, ells, ed etc.

Elspethelf · 21/02/2024 04:46

I love your list OP, including Ziggy. I gave my son an unusual name because my husband and I loved it and it’s no issue. In fact, I feel baby announcements these days are more likely to be names I’ve never heard used before.

I like Osmond and Sonny from your list. How about Oxford/Ox, Leonard/Lenny or Sidney/Sid?

Swindon?

We had Elwood on our list too 😊

how about
Django

Romilly
Gabriel

Romilly is a girl's name.

How about:

Ziggy and Sonny are not as uncommon as people seem to think.

Love love love Ziggy! It's been top 3 on my name list for years! Would actually love it for a girl (but think boy is perfect too!). But unfortunately Ziggy doesn't go too well with my husbands surname. If it flowed well, our child would most likely be Ziggy.

Also don't understand the poster who was so triggered by Ziggy 😂 it's a very normal name and has been around longer than I have! I'm in my 30's and there was a Ziggy a couple of years older than me, and I grew up in a very small cosy village! 😂

I don't have any suggestions for you OP, but I love your DS and DD names!! And I know exactly what you mean about wanting a unique name- not a made up non-name name, just a not over-used known name! I get it! ☺️

Thank you! It's so weird how triggered people get about others choices😂

I get you OP. My child has a unique name as I didn't want others in his class (my brother James had 7 school friends called James!) However my child's name is not "yoonique" in the sense that it's 'zany' - it's just not commonly used. It's actually fairly classic in its origins.

I looked at the ONS survey and saw that only 2 babies in England were called this the year he was born (so only 1 other child). Could you do this for last year, and scroll down to find names least used?

This is a great idea! Thank you!!

I don’t think any of the names on your list work for grown men, however cute they are on kids (and I don’t think any of them are cute either, except Woody, perhaps).

pontipinemum · 21/02/2024 10:28

Osmond/Ozzy
Elwood/ Woody

I think both of these would work. Although I did think of Elle Woods from legally blonde but I'm very sure an early 00s romcom will not be much of an issue for a baby born in 2024 😂

I don't like Ziggy, Rudy or Sonny compared to your other children's name they feel full enough

Laurance is a great name, it's been used in my family already for this generation so we wouldn't but there are a few going back.

I love Benedict but DH didn't

Orson
Atlas

There isn't a lot you can do about you DD being shortened in future. I had a friend in school 'Annabelle' we called her Anna her mum would correct us every time. She wanted to be called Anna at school, so that's what we called her. Usually forgot around her mum and got corrected again. In a very stern voice, 30s now and still Anna!

That was my thoughts that's why we won't use those names and I just can't settle on Elwood or osmond just yet.

No danger of my DD going to Evie, it's my nieces name, on the odd occasion she does get anything shorter it's Lina and I'm okay with that, not a name you come across 4 times on the register aha!

Love your ideas, thank you!
