Hormones/baby name regret - how do you pronounce Talia?!

Is it too out there with a top 50 sibling name?
We were pronouncing tal ee a rather than tarl ee a and obviously knew pronounced the other way but worried were actually the minority. We announced her name last month but every other day wonder whether we should have gone for our safe choice.

I’d pronounce it as you do. Nice name. Percy Jackson is my association with it but thats not a problem.

No, as my DH wasn’t keen. I first watched all the Rocky and Godfather films years ago though so knew the name from Talia Shire.

Surely these random Rs are just an artefact of the person's accent and not an actual pronunciation. Nobody who actually pronounced Rs, such as a Scottish accent, is putting one in.

Honestly, it's just a bath versus barth thing, pronounce it how you do and don't overthink people with different accents.

I think people with non-rhotic accents insert these extraneous r/s as a way of indicating they are lengthening the vowel. I must say I find it irritating because it makes zero sense unless you don’t pronounce rs.

I think it’s a Hebrew name, and if I remember rightly was in NCIS and is Ta-Lee-a

Tar-lia, but as soon as I heard it said with a short a I would change. I don’t think a few people pronouncing it wrongly is a reason not to use it.

I was thinking Tala like the actress in McDonald and Dodds.

It’s lovely! I would say Ta- lee- a. My 12 year old daughter has a friend called Talia and it sounds great for her age too.

Only ever heard it pronounced Tal-ee-a, never heard it as tarl-ee-a. It’s fine with a top 50 name. It’s not massively popular but I have met a fair few little ones.
