What were the most popular names in your class when you were at school and what are they now in your child’s class?

Mine were Emily, Rebecca, Sarah. Michael, Matthew, Thomas.

For my older child it’s now Eva/Evie, Lily and Esme. Leo, Harry and Henry.

Funnily enough, more of my classmates had names that were unfashionable at the time but are popular now than had names that were of the era 😂 Lots of family names as first and middle names too.

miniaturepixieonacid · 16/02/2024 12:16

My school (90s/early 00s):
Sarah, Laura, Emma, Rebecca, Claire
David, Andrew, Thomas, Daniel

I don't have children but I'm a teacher of 7 - 13 year olds. There's a LOT more variety than there used to be, imo. You don't get 4 of the same in a class any more. Probably no more than 5 or 6 of one name in a whole school:
Amelia, Lily, Sophia, Isabella/e, Daisy, Nina
Max, Charlie, Henry, Samuel, Alexander, William, Freddie

useitorlose · 16/02/2024 11:21

My female classmates were Sarah, Deborah, Frances, Melanie, Clare, Karen, Fiona, Alison, Heather, Hazel, Rachel.

Born in the early 90s it was any name beginning with J (James, Jamie, Jason, Jack, Joseph, Jordan, Jemma, Joelle, Jodie)
Alongside William (Billy), Lee, Adam, Hannah, Hayley, Rebecca and Louise.
(This was in north west London) as I got older into high school a lot of the names were Mohammed, Hamza, Kashish, Suraj, Pooja, Priya, Arti, Agnieska, Gosia. So deffo a cultural impact.

Dcs school (dc in y1 and y4 atm) the most common names appear to be Seth, Leo, Bobby, Esme, Florence, Grace, Lyla. (We live in Kent)
