Hi all!
I've got a list of names for a baby girl. Can I please get any opinions, favourites, or new suggestions!! Really struggling and only have a few weeks before she is born.

My list so far is:
Nancy
Evelyn
Ada
Esther
Edith

Help?!

Like them all except for Ada

From your list Nancy is my favourite by far - absolutely love it, very pretty and not too common either

Esther + Evelyn - nice but both a bit overused at the minute

Edith + Ada - really not a fan of the ‘old lady’ baby name trend, I agree with PP that they’ll date badly

NewName24 · 07/02/2024 00:14

Remember there are very different ways to pronounce Evelyn, so think how much that would bother you / you think it would bother you if it were your name.

I'm not keen on Nancy.

The others are all nice enough - I think Ada and Edith are very much of the 'old lady names' fashion of the moment, so from your list my favourite is Esther.

Nancy - I like this best from the names on your list.
Evelyn - not to my taste, but underused. Possible pronunciation difficulties.
Ada - I don't like the sound of it.
Esther - not to my taste.
Edith - too much a part of the old lady name trend, will date badly.

Evelyn is a top 10 baby name in the UK so I don't think it can be classed as 'underused'.

Ada

ohmyohmy123 · 06/02/2024 23:34

Top for me would be Nancy and Edith

puddypud · 06/02/2024 23:32

Nancy is my favorite. My nanna was a Nancy so I've always thought of it as a grown up name.

I like Edith as well.

PassMeTheCookies · 06/02/2024 22:46

I love them all. Ada and Esther are my favourites, with Ada coming first.

That's a list of my late great aunts names! All lovely. Nancy is my favourite.

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 06/02/2024 22:26

Sorry I don't like any of them, but in the vein of those names Heather, Morna, Lillian/Lilias?

happyinahoodie · 06/02/2024 22:24

They are all lovely. Nancy was not originally a standalone name, just a pet name for Anne/ Anna/Hannah etc. If you don't think Nancy is adult enough, then maybe one of those names, and Nancy in day to day life in the family, then she will have a choice whether or not to use it as an adult

Mumofgirls2017 · 06/02/2024 22:23

Nancy, Esther or Edith. Less common and lovely

Onelife2024 · 06/02/2024 22:22

My favourites are Esther and Ada - not overused, great for all ages, short enough not to be regularly shortened, familiar and pretty but not twee.

I also really like Edith, nn Edie. Evelyn is lovely but there are so many Eve type names around atm.

Nancy is ok, just harder to imagine for an adult (although I’m sure I’d get used to it once I’d met an adult called Nancy!)

Other ideas -

Audrey
Hazel
Mila
Lyra
Martha
Mabel
Carla
Seren
Eira
Abigail

TeenLifeMum · 06/02/2024 22:06
