We need a name that works in English, Spanish and Russian. Currently we like Lucas and Sebastian. Any other ideas?

Congratulations! Lucas is a lovely name!

IcarusFlies · 14/10/2024 20:15

Thank you! We went for Lucas in the end. Really happy with it and it suits him. Congratulations on your impending little one!

Hi, we are in the same situation (Argentinian/Russian) and we are expecting a second baby boy. Congratulations on your baby! Which name did you pick at the end?

Martin might work?

There's a short list on the mixedname website but I can't speak for how common these names are in either language!

Don't call him Oral Grin
I like Romeo and Valentin (who knew I was such a romantic soul?)

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 21/04/2024 20:58

I would go for Lucas followed by Leo.

PeatandDieselfan · 21/04/2024 20:52

On your final shortlist I like Leo best. Just wanted to add that these would probably work too, and I don't think they were mentioned yet.

Patrick/ Patrik
Gregor
Martin
Filip
Paul/Pavel
Igor
Liam

Comedycook · 21/04/2024 20:46

Oh I see you now have a final shortlist. I like them all.

Comedycook · 21/04/2024 20:45

Andre
Joseph
Christopher

I love Lucas and Leo - great names. Marcus works well too. Marius is a bit more obviously International, which is great if that’s what you’re after?

IcarusFlies · 21/04/2024 20:37

Thanks all, lots of suggestions which we have discussed at length!

Down to final 4: Lucas, Marcus, Leo or Marius. Views?

Sergio.

Augustus works surely? August in Russian, Augustus in Spanish, either in English. Gus or Auggie as nickname.
Sure they will all have slightly different spelling traditionally, or pronunciation but they will be recognisable.

We needed an International name. We found the shorter the name, the less variable options and it worked better.

Tom
Rex
Otto
Otis
Ivo
Eric
Tim
Ray
Carl
Gus

Also, names starting with Vowels usually has more pronouncing differences.

Coming back to this as baby is due in 6 weeks and we still have no name. Turns out DH didn’t want Sebastian (I’ve kind of gone off it too, with Seb / Sebbie) and I don’t like Lucas enough.

We’re thinking maybe Marcus or Augustus, but they don’t work in Russian really.

Do any of these work?

Ivan
Albert / Albie
David
Roman
Adrian
George
Milan
Robert / Bobby

itsgettingweird · 19/04/2024 06:57

Tomas.

I lived in Spain and there were lots of Russian ex pats there.

Tomas worked for French Spanish Russian German and English. Always pronounced Tomas just with accent at beginning or end depending on first language.

Sebastian is a lovely name, very elegant and classy, good choice 🙂

Onelife2024 · 13/02/2024 13:06

Great choice - I love Sebastian!

IcarusFlies · 13/02/2024 13:02

Think we’ve decided on Sebastian. DH slightly prefers Lucas but really like Sebastian too, and I quite strongly prefer Sebastian. Also works better with other DC names.

Sebastian is beautiful

How about:
Valentin
Gabriel
Florian
Rafael
Luca
Caspar?

brassbells · 05/02/2024 15:41

If he is going to go to school and live in the UK then that is the most important country for his name to be spelt and pronounced imho

The other countries can just keep the same spelling and learn how to pronounce it can't they? If it will just be visiting or cards or Skype etc

Perhaps give him Russian and Spanish names with their spelling and pronunciation as 2nd and 3rd names so if he went to live there as an adult he could say please call me X or Y like a nickname that way he has the choice as an adult

Jleome · 05/02/2024 14:43

Scott will be considered offensive to be called for Russian.

OP how about Robert?
