I absolutely love it but my husband isn't sold. He also says it "Arfa" 😂
Love the King Arthur connotations, anything history related or Celtic/Scandi as my family are a mix of both, husband is English. Last name is Smith.

My 2 1/2 year old grandson is Arthur and I often call him Arty. He calls himself Haffer.

Flopsy145 · 04/02/2024 22:28

@Allthatglittersisntart yeah he pronounces it Arfa, similarly Harry would be Arry. To be fair in our area, there will be plenty more than just my DH pronouncing it Arfa 😂

Arthur is SO old-fashioned. It's my (late) dad's name, and he was born in 1918.

It's been in the top 10 boys names for the last few years.

ONS data from 2021 has it at 4th

I think Arthur is a good name.

Can your DH not pronounce the ‘th’? According my American ex I cant either (saying ‘f’ sometimes). You could shorten it to Arty.

Or look at the list of Knights of the Round Table(some already on thread, some outlandish!)

(Not keen on Arthur, still an old man to me even though it has been and gone again in the last few years)

Flopsy145 · 04/02/2024 17:44

@KirstenBlest I'm mainly Welsh, the Scandinavian is a real mix of Finland, Denmark, a bit of Faroe islands I think as well. Middle names will be Eric Thomas, we couldn't decide so decided to go for both.
@User6761 love Evan. Also similar vein I like Ivor.
Bowen, Torrin and Logan are also high on my list but I'm not sure DH will go for them, @theduchessofspork I love Magnus as well as Maddox.

What sort of Celtic and what sort of Scandi?
Arthur Smith is likely to be a common name, so I'd suggest a distinguishing middle name that doesn't look like a first name.
e.g, Arthur Fraser Smith or Arthur Aland Smith
(just using Arthur and random-ish middle names)

User6761 · 04/02/2024 17:13

Agree with PP, with such a common surname I personally would be looking for a less commonly used first name if possible.

Lawrence
Sidney
Abel
Crawford
Evan
Cassian

sunflowerpinks · 04/02/2024 15:37

With such a common surname for d choose a name outside the top100. I know sooo many boys/men called Steve Smith, Harry Smith etc...
