Why is everyone so mad about the name “Kayleigh”?!

I am not sure but I can't be the only one hoping the poster who suggested it comes back and replies 'Is it too late to say I'm sorry?'

GodlessCommie · 28/01/2024 10:14

I think Kelly and Keeley (know a lovely 19yr old Keeley) are great names. My school bullies were Lucinda and Victoria - they're probably regulars on this board 😆

VaddaABeetch · 28/01/2024 10:05

You’ll get the same comments from people here that all Irish names get.

Chavy, common, horrible.

I wonder if the Mumsnet current favourites Orla, Quinn & Niamh will get the same way?

Justleaveitblankthen · 28/01/2024 10:00

I like lots of names that begin with a K.
I just think they are pretty, with the exception of Kerry (Katona😂)
Have one distant cousin who was a 'Kellie' so no bad connotations (I'm mid 50's)
Also like:
Kara
Karla
Karina
Kelcie
Karin
Kendra

Perfectly reasonable name but very dated

Wictc · 28/01/2024 09:50

I think you should use it if you like it. Hopefully the next generation won’t be as judgemental as this one!

Anjea · 28/01/2024 09:21

Mumsnet hate K names.

I went to school with a couple of smelly Kelly's but hopefully things have moved on in the playground since then. They were both nice girls.

SevenSprings · 28/01/2024 09:18

I think it's due a reimage. Like others, I knew some horrid Kellys at school in the 80s, but dear God that was 40+ years ago!

My image of a Kelly is seriously outdated now.

Use it. Most the people your daughter will meet in her life will be far too young to even know what a 70s/80s Kelly was like. So it'll be a blank slate for them.

oldnorsesaga · 28/01/2024 09:08

what about Kaylie? I like Kelly, but prefer Kaylie.

OldBeyondMyYears · 28/01/2024 08:44

I think it's quite sweet! Callie/Kallie also lovely 🥰

Blomdd · 28/01/2024 08:43

Lovely for a boy. Terrible for a girl.

vincettenoir · 28/01/2024 08:38

It's ok

My name is Kelly, spelt differently though, and I was born in the 70’s. The name can also be spelt Kellie, Kelley and Kelleigh.

However, what a load of absolutely nasty comments on this thread! It’s a name, just a name and yet so many of you claim that every Kelly you have known was awful, a bully, low rent, it rhymes with smelly (never been called that), the name is horrible and cheap etc.

Seriously people, the OP likes the name and so many of you have trashed it back in her face. It’s fine not to like a name, but to be so nasty - it’s not on. And it’s not just because it’s my name - you see these sort of comments spouted on here daily. Just try and be tactful and not nasty - plenty of people might not like your DC’s names either .

It’s a name forum, expressing honest opinions about names is literally what it’s for.

If you don’t want to experience people being rude about your name, then best avoid it.

Irememberitwell · 28/01/2024 08:30

Not keen at all sorry and Keely is even worse.

SueBranchers · 28/01/2024 08:28

Only if you buy her some lelli kelly shoes to wear LOL! Otherwise all anyone can think of is Kelly Osbourne, not ideal.

freshgreen · 28/01/2024 08:27

It's sweet
What about considering Kally or Cally as well.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 28/01/2024 08:25

Its a nice name. Aside from 1, all the Kellys I know have been lovely.
Plus in a class full of Ellas and Avas Kelly will sound very refreshing

WishesPromises · 27/01/2024 22:21

I've known two Kelly's and neither had any of the attributes, ambitions or accomplishments I'd hope for in a daughter.

My friend Kelly was born in 1976. She is amazing and was honoured with an award at the cathedral last summer for her work in the community. @Charliecatpaws I wonder if it is the same person?

Babyroobs · 28/01/2024 01:28

Callie is much nicer.

Beaverbridge · 28/01/2024 01:21

Love it.

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 28/01/2024 01:19

I quite like it but prefer it for a boy

AllTheShinyThings · 28/01/2024 01:11

Why is everyone so mad about the name “Kayleigh”?!

GodspeedJune · 28/01/2024 01:05

I know one in her 20s and one in her 30s, both lovely women! I like it, probably because there’s a good association with them. Go for the name you like OP.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 28/01/2024 00:54

I think it's pretty.
Plenty of Ellies about. Kelly is refreshing.
