Hedy for a girl

DH and I love it, it became an idea after watching a fascinating doc about Hedy Lamarr. Pronounced Head-ee.
We are both French and English speaking and DH thinks in England a daughter would be likely to get unpleasant jokes made about it.
Thoughts?

Hedera (botanical name for Ivy) nn Hedy might give a bit more wiggle room if there’s a worry about a mean nn

I think it just sounds like you’ve not got the name Heidi quite right.
And I do think it leaves a lot of opportunity for kids to make sexual jokes when a bit older.
It’s a big no from me.

Hedy was short for Hedwig.

I don’t see that it would be a problem as per previous posters but the spelling vs pronunciation could be.

Wow, never heard anyone say Hedy is a "slaggy" name. Never crossed my mind. I know a Hedy and although most people can't pronounce the name when they first see it written down, the reaction is always either "oh the actress!" or "oh the pioneer of WiFi!" Cool, either way. Excellent name.

Her given name was Hedwig, not Hedy. that was her nickname.

Hedy will get sexual jokes all day. Gives Hedy by name, by nature.... just guarantees she's viewed a slag. cruel name I think.
