I love this name so much and want to name our baby, due in a few weeks, this.
My DH says it's a beautiful name but he doesn't want to use it as uts 'political'.
I think that's nonsense because it's a very old name of a goddess and also of one of the moons of Jupiter. Yes people might also associate it with Europe the geographical area but I do not see the problem there either as girls get named things like Asia, America and Ireland for example. What's the difference?
He says it's contentious because of the referendum in the UK but I honestly don't see how that is an issue. Europe as a geographical area has existed for a long time its not just a political union. And surely people will not still be up in arms about the referendum when my daughter is an adult? I think it's a silly reason not to use this beautiful name.
We are both agreed we want a space/heavens themed names. He has been suggesting the names of other moons. But not only is Europa a beautiful name I think it's one of the most beautiful moons too.. covered in ocean.
Do people really think Europa is a 'politically charged' name?

Europa Hotel Belfast. The most bombed hotel in Europe EVER during the troubles.

It's not a name I would call a child.

It doesn’t really matter what we think, if your husband doesn’t want to call your daughter this, for whatever reason, surely his opinion counts?
IMO it’s not a nice name but not politically charged.

I wouldn't have said politically charged though I can see why. It does sound like a hotel or conference centre though!
