Looking for some more potential boys' names that are unusual but not out there.

The current list for names includes:

Zephyr
Oakley
Phoenix
Jax
Marley

Any ideas welcome? 😊

Phoenix is apparently widely used by the trans and non-binary community as it symbolises rebirth / rising from the ashes if that bothers you at all.

Unusual names just aren’t that unusual anymore. My friend called her now four year old Arlo thinking it was very unique and it’s now pretty much top ten.

I know a Zephyr! Twin named Atlas and sister named Birdie! Also know of a Malu, Cassius, Silas, Wyatt, Heath as well as lots of more common names.

I've always loved Moss, Roman and Ari for a boy.

Cooper is cute, but I had a dog with that name so couldn't personally use it.

Murphy is another

@Purpleavocado my friend has a Phoenix - he's a wonderful 18yr old at university. He has a brother Spike - 24 with a very successful career in the city after completing his degree. Their names have never given them a problem. Get over yourself.

I love that name "Spike" - so cool

I have a Dexter and Otis. They are both adult now and have always liked their names.

We also considered:

Hunter
Cooper
Chester
Eden
Raff
Tadhg (my favourite but I didn't want him to have a lifetime spelling his name)
Felix
Sasha
Red (one of mines middle name)

In our family the word Zephyr is code for a fart , as my dad used to say “a warm wind from the south”.

(Though technically it is a gentle wind from the west.)

Can you imagine working in an office, or seeing a mechanic, or having an every day conversation, with a man called Zephyr or Pheonix? When he's middle aged, balding and a few stone over weight?

Maybe he'll keep his health and his waistline. Maybe 90 Zephyr will be the ladies man in the old people's home.

I don't see what's worse about a mechanic named Zephyr than Jack or why is recoil at a casual convo with Phoenix but not Oliver.

Maybe you need wider horizons.

As in the tropical cyclone? Let's hope he's nothing like it!

Names I considered were:

Archer
Tristan
Rowan
Nathaniel (Nate)
Nicholas (Cole)
Drew

Just remember that names are much more diverse these days and people are much more likely to deviate from standard names. On the plus side, it's means a more unusual name won't be considered 'out there'. On the other hand, it means you can never rule out the two in one class thing.

WilsonandNoodles · 12/01/2024 13:29

We've got a Jax and a Phoenix (female) in our small rural school. Also a Bob but no Brian's!

I love Marley. Similar names I like,

Cooper
Fletcher
Flynn
Archer
Darwin

Great names, and win win, they will be trendy for newborns in about five years time, but you can almost guarantee that there won’t be another one in the school year group! It’s all about keeping ahead of the trend.

🙂

Peter will be their middle name after my dad. I'm not specifically about a trendy name, but I don't want a first name that anyone I personally know/know of/once knew has/had as names always attach to specific people in my mind 😊
