I am so stuck. I have girls' names galore, please give me nice slightly arty boys' names that won't get hugely popular in a year or two

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
harpsichordcarrier · 17/03/2008 14:43

there is a child in our school called Beckham, Beck for short

harpsichordcarrier · 17/03/2008 14:43

it's Petroc, with a kind of "d" sound in the middle
it sounds nothing like Pet Rock

Going well, thanks! This is my first tiptoeing back into Mumsnet... mustn't get too addicted

I like Beck... and would everyone think it was short for Beckham?

I like Fischer and Ford, but not with our surname

ZippiBabes · 17/03/2008 14:39

or troll

FrannyandZooey · 17/03/2008 14:36

HC is going to call her ds Pet Rock. I might call mine Smurf or Gonk I suppose.

ZippiBabes · 17/03/2008 14:35

Rowingboat · 17/03/2008 14:34

I was thinking Ndugu - from 'About Schmidt' but probably too foreign.
Petros quite close to Pet Rock?

Ellbell · 17/03/2008 14:34

OK. Soz. I like Conrad.

FrannyandZooey · 17/03/2008 14:33

oh man, Beck
dp would like that
hmmmm

nope

Alder is a good one, I don't think so but I like 'nature' names

hello umlella! I was thinking about you - how is it going? Skyler is nice.

OP posts:
Umlellala · 17/03/2008 14:33

Oh, we/I/dh liked Emil, Leon, Dexter, Ezekiel and Felix too.

FrannyandZooey · 17/03/2008 14:32

no NOT foreign names please
I mean not overtly foreign ones

OP posts:
Umlellala · 17/03/2008 14:31

Well, we have chosen ours (we are def having a boy) but you are welcome to it if you love it as much as us (most people in rl seem to hate it so far... oops... but you never know, it might do a 'finley' and become more well-known...). Our dd's name is pretty unheard of too but our ds will be

Skyler

and we prob will shorten to Sky... hippy boy!

(PS I put your books in the post today!)

sorkycake · 17/03/2008 14:31

How about
Alder
Beck
Conrad

Ellbell · 17/03/2008 14:31

What about foreign names?

Giulio
Guido
Luca (quite popular, though)
Federico
Francesco/Franco
Davide (pronounced DAH-vee-day)
Stefano (emphasis on the first syllable)
Lorenzo (Laurie by another name)
Didier (my absolute fave French name; Didier Boden sounds fab)

MadameCh0let · 17/03/2008 14:29

You were like I was. I was so stuck on Gus. Surname García. Gus Garcia, ummm lovely. But Gwyneth Paltrow did Moses Martin and what sounds worse than that?!

I didn't do Gus García in the end though, I just couldn't.

FrannyandZooey · 17/03/2008 14:27

MadameC yes I'm afraid so

sorky I will probably start another one when this one ends

'franny's poncy name thread continued'

OP posts:
MadameCh0let · 17/03/2008 14:27

Ok, HOlden Boden. That sounds like a euphemism for something......

Basically anything with two syllables that ends in -en or -an is going to sound a bit lame.

So that just leaves you with Victor really

sorkycake · 17/03/2008 14:26

Noooo F&Z you're nearly at 1000.

I bet no-one's name thread has ever reached 1000 posts before, keep going ladies!

MadameCh0let · 17/03/2008 14:26

What about Holden, as in Caulfield. That has a touch of the Arden about it. That must have crossed your mind. It's a bit more Masc. than Arden.

Does HOlden sound rubbish with your sn?

FrannyandZooey · 17/03/2008 14:25

well as said earlier it is not Boden but not a million miles away

OP posts:
Rowingboat · 17/03/2008 14:25
Grin
MadameCh0let · 17/03/2008 14:25

Mogadon? Like it. ANd I was about to suggest Codeine.
