Is Bruce due a comeback?

I’m pregnant with my second son and we quite like Bruce as a first name, however it gets a very mixed response off our families when we discuss it. Is it due a comeback do you think? Or are pregnancy hormones disrupting my thinking 🤔😅

I know a Bruce who is 12 and it works fine

sel2223 · 14/08/2024 10:33

My cousin just gave her son Bruce as a middle name.

I know 3 young Bruce’s. They’re all dogs though.

Someone said that names come back for pets a decade or two before they do for humans, I think that’s probably right. I know a goldfish called Nigel.

I think not yet. It’ s generation away still. It’s generally the generation that are dying that we start using their names of?

Yep, like Brian - in 20 years nurseries will be full of Pamelas and Patricias too.

Saying that it won’t sound odd to his peer group now, only to adukts.

We had a baby boy in January 2024 and named him Bruce we had a lot of mixed response but generally positive and when people meet him they say it really suits him🥰I was so nervous at first about people not liking it but now I don’t care if people don’t like it how can you not like a baby?! I think Bruce is a perfect name and I think it will make a comeback so I knew I would be upset with myself if I didn’t name him Bruce and then I heard of someone else naming their baby Bruce I would be a bit upset I didn’t go through with it. Have you had your baby yet? And if so what name did you go with?

Coastalcreeksider · 24/12/2023 14:59

I've only ever heard the name Bruce for a pet, a labrador dog and someone's cat.

FrostieBoabby · 24/12/2023 14:48

Not a fan of it, personally think it's a surname or big boofy dog name.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 23/12/2023 13:14

Only if you're expecting a Labrador.

IMHO, obviously.

It depends on whether you know someone with the name.
I know a Bruce from work so it seems a normal name.
I know a little boy called Arnold, a young man called Bernard, etc so they just seem like underused names.

User6761 · 23/12/2023 11:19

I went to school with an amazing guy, now in his mid 40s, called Bruce. So the name has positive connotations for me. I like it.

I think if was ever going to make a comeback it would have been when Bruce Forsyth died. When I was pregnant with my second child 42 years ago my ex husband wanted to call him Bruce. I decided on Callum which was quite unusual at the time, not so much now!

Disagree. The Boss dying is when it will happen. He's 74.

Yes I think it's going to have a comeback.

Christmasconcerts · 23/12/2023 00:48

It’s funny as like another poster it has grown on me! When people list famous Bruces I realise they are out there but I just think of 1Bruce1 … if you know, you know …

Housenoob · 23/12/2023 00:42

I do like it, but it is a bit of a comedy name. I think of both:

'Hallo, my name is Bruce. Fish are friends not food' Finding Nemo

And

'You can do it Bruce!!!' Matilda cheering on poor Bruce Bogtrotter eating the cake

SpringIntoChaos · 21/12/2023 20:23

Get in now OP, before the official comeback starts...be in the vanguard so to speak. It's a cool name 🥰

I always think of Robert the Bruce when I hear this name . Good Scottish name .

Except in this case, it's only OK for a sexy Scotsman

Justfinking · 21/12/2023 20:22

God no. It's a name for a 40 year old Australian man

KirstenBlest · 21/12/2023 20:20

Children born now won't know who Bruce Forsyth was.

makeminealargeoneagain · 21/12/2023 16:09

Nice to see you...to see you...Nice.
Sorry OP, it's a no from me for bringing back Bruce.

UsernameIsHarderThanBabyName · 21/12/2023 16:04

Love it

Westwindworries · 20/12/2023 14:05

It's DS2's middle name (family name) and one of DS1's classmates also has Bruce as a middle name (also a family name).

I think it's on the way back.

KirstenBlest · 20/12/2023 10:31

Angus and Bruce is a good combo! I’d imaging them to grow up to be 6ft 5 strapping lads with ginger hair!
No stereotyping there then.
The Angus and Bruce I know are quite short and slim, one dark-haired and the other fair-haired.
