Max or Charlie??

Hi,
I'm due in 2 weeks and finding it hard to choose a boy's name!
Loved Max from first finding out I was pregnant. Family(esp my parents) not that keen though. Bit put off by the fact that Christina Aguilara and J-Lo have called their babies Max and the not so nice Kerry Katona is going to use the name Max too!!!
Worried it may also be or become over popular.
Like the name Charlie as a second choice but again worried it's now too popular. Also it may be too much like my own name Charlotte which is sometimes abbreviated to Charl or Charlie! Any advice welcomed!!!

It's Charlie for me!

Both are great names.

DDs second boyfriend was called Max (she's only 7 and on her 4th!) and I wished they were 21 so she could marry him (joking!!!).

He was lovely though, so I do like the name.

Charlie reminds me of Charlie Dimmock. Not a positive reference point, I know, but I can't get it out of my head! Also, the expression 'right charlie' keeps coming into my head, which is a shame, as the name is really quite cute.

Something to think about. Thanks

Aaaaaaaaaaghhh about KK - after Max Clifford I guess. Anyway, what about Mac as an alternative?

pagwatch · 12/03/2008 14:08

I did always wonder how i would feel if someone trashed my DC's names on here.
Surprisingly untroubled..

(Wait to see how I eact when the other two come up)

pointydog · 11/03/2008 17:46

of course thats what you meant.

mazzystar · 11/03/2008 17:42

Hasten to add that I mean a boyfriend I had in my teens, not a teenage I am currently consorting with!

mazzystar · 11/03/2008 17:41

Love Charlie, reminds me of a teenage boyfriend of mine.

Max is nice, but it is a bit fashionable at the moment - I think it will date more quickly than Charles/Charlie.

pagwatch · 11/03/2008 17:39

Pointy ! Tsk!
My boy is a Charlie. I have never regretted it. He is gorgeous (seriuosly, he really is).
He was actually named Charles. That was in case he ended up as a High Court judge and needed to be formal.
( He has profound SN though so it isn't likely although he would be very good with a gavel ).
I only had a moments twinge when his brother started calling him Char but it is only DS1 so I have to let it go as a brother thing.

cupsoftea · 11/03/2008 17:37

would use the full versions of the name & then shorten them

Hulababy · 11/03/2008 17:36

I prefer the name charlie to Max, although would actually put Charles on the birth certificate.

Friend's little baby is called Charlie and it really suits him.

jellies · 11/03/2008 17:31

prefer Charlie unless your sir name is Brown..
Max is my Dogs name.. I like it for my pet! Sorry!

pointydog · 11/03/2008 17:28

Prefer Max.

Charles sounds a little pompous and Charlie sounds a little buffoonish

EHM · 11/03/2008 17:24

Thanks so much for the advice. I'm rubbish at making the smallest of decisions at the best of times!!!

Think I will keep an open mind as suggested and see what I think when he's born

I'd wait and wait and see which suits him better. Personally I prefer Max but Charlie is also nice.

geordiemacminx · 11/03/2008 15:01

I have a Charlie - check out my profile - he totally suits his name -he is the cheekiest wee thing.

Obviously I prefer Charlie to Max but I'm sure once your LO arrives you will know!

allegrageller · 11/03/2008 14:53

I have a Max! It's a class name.

I had to call him Maximilian at dh's insistence (in fact dh wanted Maximus, as in the film Gladiator, but settled for Maximilian)

bluenosesaint · 11/03/2008 14:50

Love Max ...and Charlie is very cute too ...i don't think you can go wrong with either
