we have been desperately trying to come up with potential boy names. i'm due in beg june. we already have 1 ds, named Dylan (obviously! dh came up with name in delivery room after bob dylan which i didn't work out until later). we don't know the sex of this baby but have basically decided on Bronwyn for a girl (we have a couple back ups as well).

for a boy though - we just completely disagree. the only common name we've come up with so far is Sebastian (Seb) but neither of us love it.

as an idea - dh likes Winston (been pushing for that since ds), Mortimer (Morty), Leroy. these are NEVER going to happen! i like things like Caden, Tristan, Nate, Griffon, Lachlan. he hates all those.

we need to find something traditional but not too common. Dylan really suits his name but i hear it called out to boys everywhere we go! i feel like i've read every baby name site on the web. please help!!!

Tyler is better than bloody Thack-what if he is thick?

tortoiseSHELL · 07/03/2008 14:41

Why not look at the meanings? In fact I'll do it for you...

Winston - "from Wina's Town"
Mortimer - "from the still pond"
Leroy - "King"

Caden - "Fighter"
Tristan - "Tumult"
Nate - short for Nathan - "He Gave"
Griffon - not recognised
Lachlan - "From the Land of the Lakes"

Sebastian - "Venerable"

Garrett - "Spear Rule"

ronshar · 07/03/2008 14:40

Dont use Noah. Is it everywhere. Very common at the moment. Do the Sainsbury's challenge. Stand at the back and listen to every name you wouldnt ever use being shouted out.

i don't know, adam and cameron seem a bit too, kind of blah ifkwim. dh was trying to sell the monty for mortimer but i'm not keen. i picture a geeky teenager somehow.

i want something uncommon and 'cool' but he wants something traditional - i think it's a tough balance.

Caleb is a very cool name and not popular either. My Caleb really suits his name and we sometimes call him Cabes. Gabe is a very cool name too and Dylan and Gabriel/Gabe goes very well. I wanted Gabriel for DS3 but we thought that Caleb and Gabriel might be too samey. Tell your DH that there is a lead singer of a band (I forget which one) called Caleb...it might persuade him as he liked the Bob Dylan link. Btw, DH tells everyone our Dylan was named after the rabbit in the magic roundabout...NOT TRUE!

dylansmumplusone · 06/03/2008 16:59

squirdle Caleb is my favourite but for some reason dh really doesn't like it.

honoria i did know a Gabe as a teenager that was the epitome of cool and very good looking!! he went out with my best friend (of course).

Gabe is such a cool name as well for as he gets to be a teenager etc....

TheMaskedPoster · 06/03/2008 16:49

Murdoch?

Friend of a friend has two sons, Lachlan and Murdoch - they are expecting their third child and I am dying to find out what they are going to name him/her!

dylansmumplusone · 06/03/2008 16:46

yes i have to admit i really dislike gary. i do like gabriel i'll run that by dh when he gets home.

Garrett is ugly IMO and he will be Gary at school.....

Love Seth
Gabriel
Noah

of those here

Squirdle · 06/03/2008 16:32

Hey go for Caleb! I have a Caleb and a Dylan, but the other way round to yours. Not many Calebs around.

I'm not keen on Garrett to be honest, it sounds too much like Gary or Gareth.

I love Elijah (Eli), Gabriel (Gabe), Noah, and Flynn (although that wouldn't go too well wtih Dylan)

dylansmumplusone · 06/03/2008 15:55

no comment, does that mean people don't like the sound of it??

OP posts:
dylansmumplusone · 06/03/2008 15:43

hmmmm... we may have had a breakthrough with Garrett! we'll see how long it lasts!!
