yup it's another saddo "what do you think of these names?" thread :-)

Hi Girls,

Thought I would distract myself from worrying about the small size of my Bump until I see the midwife tomorrow by asking you your thoughts on these options...

We don't know the sex, so it's Kinder Surprise Also we have a seriously weird 3 syllable surname that starts with T. So we're going for short, punchy names with a max of 2 syllables:

Boy:

Dexter
Fillan
Rowan
Tate

Girl:

Faye
Hazel
Cara
Rose

I really like them all, except a girl at school put me off Hazel... Maybe if I like your suggestions you'll like these:

Boys:
Tom
Finn
Evan
Aidan
And an Irish friend of a friend just called her son Lorcan which I thought was lovely.

Girls:
Brooke
Amber
Emme or Emma
Isabella
Suzanne or Suzannah

They were my short lists but we called our son Ben as he just looked like one and we have a long surname so need short first names.

And I agree that nice traditional names for boys are all good.

I like all your boys names, especially Tate. There's a cute Dexter at my son's nursery and at his future school there's a Beck which is in a similar kind of vein to Tate I think.

Quite like Cara, Rose is pretty but a bit common these days? Not keen on Faye and really don't like Hazel.

I really like Rowan and Merric is growing on me - sounds a touch wizardy maybe?

Do you pronounce Jago with a J or Y? I am looking for a J boys name for next one.

Only do boys names but don't like Faye too much - bit girly for me.

I like Rowan and Cara best, although all girls names are pretty. Ds2 has Rowan as a middle name. I've only ever know male Rowans.

Sage...love this for a girl...means Wisdom or Wise.

Rowan is lovely for either sex. Isn't there a tree called a Rowan?

Carys or Cerys for girls.

Ronan is nice.

Decisions, decisions! It's good to know the meanings too.

Sigh, Yeah, it's a bugger coming up with a decent boy's name. Girls are much easier. But as I say, am utterly convinved it's a boy. Love Hamish but that's my cousin's name so can't use that...

Should I be considering Merric do you think?

Or is that Just Too Mental? I wanted to call DS it, but chickened out. This is the last child I plan on having, so.....

we could always call him Rick for short and people would think we were normal

Mind you, the middle names might bugger everything up if it's boy (which I'm sure it is as there are so many boys on both sides). For Very Important Family Political Reasons, middle name is going to have to be...

Like all the girl names but don't like any of the boys names on the initial list.
I do quite like Merric though.

Boy:

Dexter - bit trendy for me but nice sound
Fillan - never heard of it
Rowan - love Rowan (rhymes with cow) for a girl but not for a boy)
Tate - dont like

Girl:

Faye - don;t like
Hazel - hmm, retro, think I like it
Cara - oh yes
Rose - oh yes

Love Dexter (was on my shortlist but vetoed by DH - think it would go well with DS's name - Devon) also like Tate.

Not too keen on girls names - Rose is best of the four

Fillan - who?
Rowan - don't like this, can't get the image of Rowan Atkinsons rubbery face out of my mind when i hear it ...
Tate - don't like this

Girl:

Faye - i actually quite like this, but around these parts people often say that something is 'fay' when they think its horrible/foul (??)
Hazel - don't like this
Cara - really like this, very pretty.
Rose - beautiful name and very underused as a 'first' name.
