Which do you prefer

I personally like Oliver but I feel its so common. I know at least 3 olivers but havent met any ezras but my concern then with ezra is that it's too odd and maybe he'd hate it
Both are family names so no other options please

Oliver.
I just think of Ezra Pound and fascism.

BorgQueen · 20/08/2023 11:29

Ezra is an ancient name. Fancy calling it ugly - how insulting to the Jewish community.

Derrymum123 · 19/08/2023 22:57

Ezra. Beautiful name. I think Oliver has been done to death.
I also like Eli.

VenusClapTrap · 19/08/2023 22:20

I know Oliver is popular statistically, but I only know one, and he’s a teenager. Ezra, on the other hand, I’m hearing shouted in the playground quite a lot. I agree with pp that it’s the new Noah.

PresentPrincess1 · 19/08/2023 22:09

The thing with Oliver is...I just see the liver part.

RestingMurderousFace · 19/08/2023 22:00

Ezra is so ugly to me. Oliver is lovely.

XStardustX · 19/08/2023 21:57

@ColinRobinsonsFart I had a long holiday romance with an Emre before I met DH. I don't think hed be too chuffed with Emre lol
Irvine is actually my mother's maiden surname. I think it might be a little odd.

Oliver is a lovely name which is why it’s popular. Also it’s timeless.

Unique names don’t necessarily = good names. My first thought about Ezra was how to pronounce it as it’s not a common name.
Oliver is lovely and soft and round to say it whereas Ezra is hard and sharp, to my
mind anyway.

ColinRobinsonsFart · 19/08/2023 02:11

I like Ezra. But have you considered Emre? I know a fabulous young man called Emre.
I also know a great young lad called Irvine ( which is also my great grandfathers name)

EconomyClassRockstar · 19/08/2023 01:45

It's not a cool, off beat name. It's a very normal Hebrew name.

camellia15 · 19/08/2023 01:38

Oliver

Ezra Pound, the massive fascist? I quite like Ezra but that’s not a namesake to shout about tbh.

I meant it in a negative fashion, I did realise after I posted it how it read so I added the post beneath. I am definitely not a fascist!!

Yoyoban · 18/08/2023 22:37

Oliver. Really nice, classic, name.

Ezra makes me think of Ezra Miller so I don't like it.

MamaToAliandHar · 18/08/2023 22:22

I like both, I lean towards Ezra a bit more tho

DramaAlpaca · 18/08/2023 22:21

Oliver is popular but that's because it's such a nice name.

I really don't like Ezra.

5imon · 18/08/2023 22:14

Think about the child going through school. " Does your mam love George Ezra?" If that's not an issue go for it.

BorgQueen · 18/08/2023 22:13

Werewolf - if your Ezra is 4 years old then quite possibly 😂

FadeAwayAndRadiate · 18/08/2023 20:18

I like them both, but at a push I would pick Ezra out of those 2.

Werewolfnotswearwolf · 18/08/2023 20:17

@BorgQueen are you my mother??😂

continentallentil · 18/08/2023 19:42

Ezra. It’s quite popular, definitely not odd.

Agree Oliver is very overdone.

MerryChristmasToYou · 18/08/2023 19:41

@Anothernamethesamegame , I actually like the name Enoch, and I would put him in the same league as Hitler. Would a young person even have heard of Enoch Powell?

Grace was probably too closely linked with the princess until about 30 yrs ago.
That's reminded me,I'm sure I once met someone called LadyDi.

BorgQueen · 18/08/2023 19:32

My GS is an Ezra. I was a bit WTF on the day he was born when they announced it but I’ve grown to love it.

TotalOverhaul · 18/08/2023 19:30

I love Ezra. Always have.

drpet49 · 18/08/2023 19:23

RitzyMcFitzy · 18/08/2023 14:02

Ezra is the new Noah. Honestly, you might think it's a bit offbeat but it's really not. It's becoming so popular.

This. I know 3 Ezra’s all under 3 years old

Werewolfnotswearwolf · 18/08/2023 19:22

We have an Ezra! I love it, just unusual enough atm but sounds a solid ‘real’ name. Cool meaning too.

Just in case it is your ‘McC’ surname, just Google Ezra McCandless (sp?), you might want to avoid that!
