Which do you prefer

I personally like Oliver but I feel its so common. I know at least 3 olivers but havent met any ezras but my concern then with ezra is that it's too odd and maybe he'd hate it
Both are family names so no other options please

Oliver

This post is from 5 months ago, the baby is probably born!

@XStardustX what name did you choose?

Orangemoon8 · 17/01/2024 10:36

I feel like Ezra is very much on the rise and wouldn’t be surprised if it ends up top 10. It’s more of a ‘now’ name so will likely date badly. Personally Oliver is too popular for me, but it has been around for years at least so shouldn’t date badly. Saying that Id still go for Ezra I think as prefer the sound.

I actually know no Oliver's and one Ezra so I'm not sure it's all that more rare!

One glance at the official ONS statistics will prove that Oliver has been used WAY more often than Ezra over the past decade!!

Samzzz · 17/01/2024 09:38

Ezra! Love it so much

Barleysugar86 · 16/01/2024 22:38

I much prefer Oliver- it's classic, strong, timeless. I actually know no Oliver's and one Ezra so I'm not sure it's all that more rare!

Airyfairy99 · 16/01/2024 22:35

I do like Ezra though and hope u can excuse my ignorance for thinking it a girls name.

Airyfairy99 · 16/01/2024 22:34

I thought Ezra was a girls name ?

sunflowerpinks · 16/01/2024 22:32

Oliver is sooooo overused and dull!

Ezra is much more memorable

ButterfliesandMoths · 16/01/2024 22:00

@ColinRobinsonsFart I had a long holiday romance with an Emre before I met DH. I don't think hed be too chuffed with Emre lol
Irvine is actually my mother's maiden surname. I think it might be a little odd.

My cousin is an Emrys. Hard core Welsh though.

drpet49 · 28/08/2023 08:38

Oliver. Ezra is ugly

garlictwist · 28/08/2023 08:33

Sorry but I hate the name Ezra. Oliver is a bit bland though

xprincessxjanetx · 28/08/2023 02:27

Oliver

Jomummy1013 · 27/08/2023 23:35

Oliver. My son is Oliver and yes he does know several at school....but I think it's a timeless and classic name. 👌

MerryChristmasToYou · 25/08/2023 12:36

Ezra (because I despise the shortened version of Oliver).
i'm not keen on Oli/Olly or Ol, but they're better than Ez.

smooththecat · 25/08/2023 01:29

I kind of appreciated his dedication to ‘difficult’ poetry, and Dante. Couldn’t get past his views. Joyce and Eliot are definitely easier to like, but the recent stuff about Eliot was 😱

Ezra will always be Ezra Pound to me, and that’s not a particularly great connotation due to his Fascist endeavours. He was a great poet, even so.

Do you think? I have always found him very mediocre as a poet. His gift was to spot genius in others rather than any particular talent of his own. Without him we wouldn’t have The Waste Land or Ulysses so we owe him that at least.

Ezra is gorgeous! Oliver is so overdone
