What do you think of the name Freddie?

After months of deliberation, DH and I have decided to call our baby Frederick but will shorten it to Freddie day to day. His middle name has to be Alexander as it is a family thing.

Anyway, I've made the mistake of telling a few people and am really surprised at the number of them who absolutely hate it (and are so keen to tell me so ). I didn't think it was that controversial to be honest. Just looking for some reassurance that it isn't awful I suppose.

By little brother is Frederik (no c - german spelling) - shortened to Riki. Love it

WowOoo · 25/02/2008 19:54

deaconblue · 25/02/2008 19:53

fab, I like the Fred shortened version too.

LittleMissBliss · 25/02/2008 19:53

I think that its a lovely name.

Desiderata · 25/02/2008 19:53

I love it. It reminds me of (Andrew) Freddie Flintoff, one of my favourite cricketers.

It's very rude to tell someone you don't like their choice of name ... and I've never found it to be controversial any way. There are quite a few round my way

Go for it! It's brill.

Freddies' have to be cheeky iyswim - very few stern Freddies'

It's a nice name and it's a good idea to have the full version on his birth cert, for the future. btw, what will his initials be? I ask, because a vowel in the middle can be problematic...

I like it. I think the Frederick/Freddie conbination manages to be both grand and friendly.

llareggub · 25/02/2008 19:51

I think it is a great name. But then it is my son's middle name so I might be biased.

Astrophe · 25/02/2008 19:50

I really like it Don't tell any more people in RL though.

I am not keen on the name but it has made a bit of a comeback, be prepared for it to be shortened to Fred though
