How many Alex's do you know?

I know none, not one Alexander and not one Alexandra and it is the name we have chosen (depending on gender) for LO, but just recently I've seen Alexander/Alexander/Alexia on a lot of names threads so was wondering if it's goign to suddenly be everywhere if I use it.

My Dad (Scottish Sandy)
Both my Grandas (Alec)
At least 4 other Alexs at various groups.
Also know lots who have it as a middle name.
Also knew a Sasha.

Nephew is Alex
Friend's ds is Alexander
DH has two colleagues called Alex. One male and one female.
Was at school with an Alexandrina.
My grandfather and cousins both have Alexander as a middle name.
One of my grandmother's brothers was Alec (presume Alexander, but not 100% sure)
Also know an Alix (female) and an Alexa (also female)

Probably know more, but that's all I can think of for now...

DS1 is Alex, when he started school there were 3 in his class and 3 in the other class in the year, the other 2 in his class have since left. (he is nearly 7)

My eldest is an Alex, there are lots at his school and two of my closest friends have Alex's as well. I think the name is on the up but always will be a classic. It's also quite international as popular in Scotland (my father was a Scottish Alexander shortened to Sandy) and lots of European countries.
Because my father was an Alex, it has always had a masculine feel for me but I really like Lexie as a shortening for Alexandra.

In DC's school, there are 3 (all boys); 2 in y4 and 1 in y3.
We have 2 in the pre-school I help at, out of 18 children. Both boys, both 2 year olds.
The only female Alex I know is 12.

I'm 39 and noone knew it as a girl's name when I was at primary school. Was always accused of having a boy's name!! All the other ones I've met were younger and posher.

I know quite a few Alexs ranging from 23 down to 2.

I remember a boy in my year at primary school called Alexander who had a sister called Alexandra. They obviously didn't shorten their names!

I love the name but 2 very close friends little boys are Alex so its not an option for us.

For shorter versions I like Lexie for a girl as well as Alex but I've seen that mentioned a lot too. For a boy I think it would definitely be Alex unless he decided he wanted to be Xander when older.

I think we are 100% decided on it for a boy, about 80% for a girl, whether a million people have it or not, just wondered really.
DD is an Ella and there were none when I named her, but seven years later I know about 10.

It is quite a common name according to the charts of names although Alexandra perhaps less so than Alexander. Alexandra was one of our girl choices but we didn't have a girl so that was that!

DS1 aged 7, has two in his class and my friend also has a DS called Alex.

DS2 who is 4 doesn't know any.

Sasha is short for Alexandra - what about that if you feel there are too many Alex's.

dd i changed her name to a derivative when she was 2 as there were so many

(So out of the 6 boys born as second children in our post-natal group, 2 are called Alexander/Alex and 1 has Alexander as a second name - ds.)

Personally, I think that if you like the name you shouldn't deliberately not use it just in case you come across other babies with the same name. But then I had only 2 names that dh and I could agree on for a boy.

My gorgeous 11 week old goddaughter is Alexandra (Alex for short). I don't know any other girls called Alex but do know a couple of older boys.

Children or Adults?

I know 4 adults, one teenager and one toddler called Alessandro.

Its a family name of mine and through the generations we have had so many diminutives, never Alex though! (have had a Sandy (my uncle) , Lexy (my great grandfather!) and a Xan

Named my son Alexander 5 months ago and knew of none before. I now know an Alexa and a friend has used it for her sons middle name and the latest royal is James Alexander.

I know 2. Both second children from my post-natal group, and both born within 6 months of each other.
DS (who is the eldest of these three boys) was nearly an Alex. But is now Tom Alexander. Obviously didn't try and avoid popular names, just had a soft spot for Tom (Alexander is a family name so was always going to feature). I know of at least 4 Toms the same age as DS. But I still love the name (and he's a proper Tom i.e. not Thomas).
