Hi all, me again, my DH and I like Oscar, Jacob and Peter for a boy. Which is your favourite?

Ah congratulations on your dd! Sorry I didn’t twig it was a zombie thread.

DiscoBeat · 18/02/2024 20:22

I prefer Oscar but I don't love its over-use. I'd choose Peter

Congratulations! 👶Flowers Bear

Thank you! We made a decision that Oscar would have been the name for a boy. I still like all three though.

This is a zombie thread guys. I had a little girl, so none of these got chosen.

Blush oops.

I know a baby Peter with older brother Thomas. Cute names and they go together nicely. They haven't been shortened yet but then you wouldn't expect people to shorten a baby's name.

My favourite of your choices is Oscar, though. Jacob is fine as well but reminds me of Rees-Mogg so I wouldn't use it.

I could never warm to Jake as a nick name.
Cobby, maybe and Ossie, maybe.
Peter and Pete I like.

Thanks for the opinions! The only problem I have with Peter is the nn Pete. It sounds like a middle-aged man to me 😅. I really like Peter though and wonder if we could pull off avoiding Pete as a nn.

I like Jake and Jacob pretty much equally, so the same issue isn't there.

Petey is nice though. But will inevitably become Pete, yes.
Jacob for me.

UltraWoman · 18/02/2024 11:36

Peter

Strawberrycheesecake7 · 18/02/2024 11:36

Jacob is my favourite. I like Peter as well. Oscar is okay but I’m not a huge fan of it.

KirstenBlest · 18/02/2024 11:34

Peter

TenThousandSpoons · 17/02/2024 21:51

Love Oscar and Jacob.

I really dislike Peter.
Peter Pettigrew, Peter Beale, Peter out.
Will definitely get shortened to Pete when he’s older whereas no Oscars I know are called Ozzy.

GuessThatGranny · 17/02/2024 21:45

Peter. Long over due a comeback and very cool

MoChridhe · 30/07/2023 21:12

My DS is Jacob Oscar

Coffeeandcakemum · 30/07/2023 21:09

Peter

Chevrotains · 30/07/2023 20:48

Oscar is my favourite and then Jacob

simonthedog · 23/07/2023 20:07

Peter

Maireas · 23/07/2023 20:00

Again, they're all nice. I like Peter because it's classic and slightly less common. I had to laugh at your take on Pete! I know what you mean.
I teach a lot of Oscars, not as keen.
Good luck with the baby.

toomanysausages · 18/07/2023 00:21

Peter is lovely. I've only ever met one Oscar, lovely name.

WildEarth · 18/07/2023 00:17

Oscar. Not a fan of Peter.

mathanxiety · 18/07/2023 00:14

Oscar or Peter.

OdeToAutumn · 17/07/2023 23:51

I have a Jacob and I was saying the other day i’m still so happy we picked it. There has been one other Jacob in his year and a Jake.

Oscar is nice but not my favourite. Peter is ok.

shoopshoopdedoo · 17/07/2023 21:37

I think I’d pick Peter. Oscar is lovely too but seems to be the name of every other baby boy I meet! I’ve never liked the name Jacob, but I do like Jake.

TheYear2000 · 17/07/2023 21:27

Great list! I like all 3, maybe Jacob least of the 3. I think Peter is a great name that is very underused!
