Please no chav.

No Blaze,Courtney-May, Minky-Rae etc.

My daughter already does not suit her name it is far to gentle for her even dh agrees (I am amazed by this) but I am flummoxed as to what we could call her instead as we had Nell, Annie, Constance and Dolly on our lists and neither of them fit either.

Any suggestions would be very welcomed, I really want to get the ball rolling sooner rather than later I think we have 5 weeks before we can't change it officially.

Sorry Romy I didn't see your post Cosima is a beautiful name Coco too.

Yes? Hmmm.

Dh is going to kill me all these choices. Sylvi shortened to Lily could well work and is not too radically different.
That pic captures her perfectly BTW.

Our daughter is called Cosima but we call her Coco, she's a strong little caracter

ArchiesMama · 20/02/2008 10:04

aww so cute...she looks like a tiger lily

Greensleeves · 20/02/2008 10:04

She looks like a Tigerlily

justnotsure · 20/02/2008 10:01

Sylvie. Now that is good. I read it earlier on and it stuck in my mind.

This is hard, why couldn't you have just all said Minky-May.

I love this thread. Emmeline has gone on our 'hypothetical dd' list now (which several of the other names mentioned are already on).

Sylvia, diminutive Lily (yes, not very etymological, but I think it works), would work well?

Cataline · 20/02/2008 09:54

Oh yes, a photo would be fab! And Tiger is great!!
I wanted to call DS that!!

justnotsure · 20/02/2008 09:43

Thank you all.

Short list looks like

George/ie
Tiger (lily) Brilliant I cannot believe we didn't think of that (ds loves it)
Constance (dh hates but shortened to Nancy (dh's fave) Don't like Connie though myself.
Iris- though not everyone's favourite nobody seems to dislike it.

Henrietta (Etta/ Ettie)I can'r get it out of my mind and I don't mind shouting it out. Tiger I am not so confident with.

Perhaps I should post a photo of her so you can see what she looks like

I have a Scarlett Bibi and a Honey Neve. Hope that helps!

broguemum · 20/02/2008 08:44

Lots of lovely names on here but here's my view FWIW.

If you want a strong name why not go for Matilda which means mighty battle maid / mighty in battle? You can shorten it to Tilly, Tilda, Maud, Maudie or Mat etc etc.

The reason I love it is that it's the name we chose for our little girl when she was rushed off to IC the hour after she was born. She was going to be Constance but we felt the need to give her a fighter's name 'cos she had a fight on her hands the first few days of her life and she WON! The name suits her down to the ground although she probably won't want to live in Australia (waltzing Matilda, waltzing Matilda. Who'll come a waltzing Matilda with me? etc etc fade out......)

Fillyjonk · 20/02/2008 07:58

ah well

both my first and middle name

and both my daughters names

are on this thread, several times

so that is good

Even if I have lost on Lilith

belgo · 20/02/2008 07:31

Ursula, means 'little bear'

blueshoes · 19/02/2008 22:39

Interesting Spidermama. Portia could also mean gift or offering in Latin.

But really it was the association with the character in The Merchant of Venice that I like. Intelligent, loyal and determined - fabulous qualities for a woman.

nappyaddict · 19/02/2008 22:26

inga, finola, nola, fionnuala, teal, tehila, tola, twyla, tullia, gretel, dianne, joye, joyce, tal, garnet.

Spidermama · 19/02/2008 22:16

I love Portia but it means 'pig like'.

Spidermama · 19/02/2008 22:16

Billie.
Ariel.
