Ffion, Zoe, Alexandra or Isabella?

Ffion is currently the frontrunner, especially as I am due to give birth the day after St David's Day. We are Welsh but currently living in Oxfordshire, which is why we'd like a Welsh name.

I'm still being drawn by the other three though. Bloke doesn't like Isabella - our surname starts with a B, and he thinks it sounds a bit clunky.

Any opinions welcomed, please!

Re: les francais, I have heard fion used for ass, at least I think it's ass, but you wouldn't not call e.g. your son Conn because it might one day be approximated by the French to sound like con.

I have a Ffion (DD1) and when I visit folks in England (we live in Wales) people often comment on what a lovely unusual name it is. DD2 has Llinos as middle name meaning Linnet-difficult to pronounce if not Welsh. DD3 due in 2 wks and will be Elin.

ah. lolol. no need to be so coy about it before, surely. we can handle a cunt on MN. i still think it's the nicest name by a cuntry mile, however... would fiona really get a different response from the frenchies? i doubt it.

OK. Ffion in french is c*nt. If my schoolgirl french is inaccurate, I am sure Anna will correct me.

gosh, i love Ffion and i'm not welsh, it's a gorgeous name, much nicer than the others. can't understand for a second why anyone would think it horrible...

my hubby likes ffion, i like alex and isobella though there does seem to be a lot of them around. Alexandra is prob my fav

I'd also say that, given that you ARE welsh, probably have welsh accents and will be going back there to visit family, the real question is do zoe, alexandra and isabella travel well to wales, not does Ffion travel well to France...

Alexandra is a fine name.

And Alex is quite sexy in a grown woman i think .

Isabella is gorgeous. Alexandra is a good strong name. Zoe is okay. Don't like Ffion much.

I like the following

Alexandra (dd2 name ) but seems to be very popular at the moment.

Zoe (or Zowie as per my hairdresser)

Not keen on

Isabella or Ffion.

I have an Isabella, known as Ella and an
Alexandra known as Lexie so my vote is for them!

a pattern is definately emerging here. I think I am right in saying that every poster who has liked it has a welsh connection?

Its not an unusual name at all here, I know 3 preschool ffions.

not ffion (william hague associations). zoe nice. not alexandra (reminds me of nutty piano teacher i once had) isabella nice.

Try saying Dr Zoe (etc) Surname out loud to each other What middle names do you have?
