Do you like the name Romilly?

I'm stuck for a name for our little girl. I want something pretty but a bit unusual and I think I like the name Romilly but can't decide if it's a bit too uncommon. What do you think? I'm also not sure of a middle name but thinking it needs to be a one-syllable name so that it's not too much of a mouthful?

Yes, I know who you are referring to but what difference should that make?

Hitlery
Staliny
Trumpy

There are just so many other names...

Imagine reading out that class register! 😂

I don’t like it. It sounds like one of the Chinese scam knock off websites. I see it a lot on here but I’ve never actually heard anyone use it IRL.

I like it. I know one, but she's mostly called Roms now! But Romy and even Millie are nice options for her.

I don't like it - it makes me think of Rommel

That seems like a bit of a strange comparison but ok 😆There are quite a few names that you could say the same for - Joseph certainly doesn't remind me of Stalin, Polly of Pol Pot etc!

Love it. I know a grown up Romilly. I think it's pretty, unusual and sophisticated without being difficult to pronounce or unfamiliar.

Margo34 · 12/02/2023 18:45

Made me think of the 90's film 'Romy and Michele's high school reunion' 😂

That aside, I do love the name Romilly, it's on my list too ☺️

Florissant · 12/02/2023 18:45

Adding my vote to "Yes. It's pretty."

And a "huh?" to if you drop the -y it is basically the same name as a very bad man. Yes, I know who you are referring to but what difference should that make?

I really don’t like it I’m afraid. It’s a bit of a mouthful, I don’t think it ‘flows’ very well and I don’t know what I’d shorten it to other than Millie which I don’t like either.

It’s suggested on here all the time though, so I think I must be in the minority!

Is it? I had a look back through some old threads but they all seemed like they were from ages ago... and most people hated the name lol. I like Romy for a nn rather than Milly.

Love it! Very pretty and feminine sounding.

DramaAlpaca · 12/02/2023 18:38

Yes, it's pretty

RandomUsernameHere · 12/02/2023 18:38

Yes I think it's a lovely name. I don't consider it to be particularly unusual, in a good way.

I like it. Wasn't there a newsreader (or something like that) called Romilly Weeks? She had lovely hair, as I recall. Not really relevant, but it's a name that has a nice association for me, with an intelligent and attractive woman doing a good job.

I didn't know that! I just googled her. You're right, she does have great hair lol

I absolutely love it, was in the top 3 for my youngest DD but didn't use it in the end.

kindlekeeper · 12/02/2023 18:36

Great name.

Not spelled the same, but it's a suburb of Stockport so something to bear in mind.

I think quite a few names are also names of places so that doesn't bother me too much but thanks :)

I love it! Theres a TV journalist called Romilly Weeks and I've always thought it was a lovely sounding name.

RaininSummer · 12/02/2023 18:34

Nice name.

Lavenderfowl · 12/02/2023 18:33

It’s lovely, sweet but strong so would fit whoever she turns out to be. Romola is another nice variation.

user1499191107 · 12/02/2023 18:33

It's really pretty, I like it!

BurntCrumpet · 12/02/2023 18:30

Ah yes I was thinking Romy would be a nice nickname :)

It’s a surname in the Churchill family, so people may think you are related

What do you mean?!
