Came across a child with this name recently. I've never heard of it, and I just thought it sounds like calling your child Skirtsie or Glovesie. But maybe it's a real name that I just haven't heard before. Maybe from another country? Mum seemed perfectly normal and called her Blouse for short! Anyone heard it before or can explain it to me? I absolutely promise I'm not on the wind up.

We (UK) use it as an adjective meaning under par.
Like "I feel a bit blousey today."
means I would be feeling low/meh/blah/bit down in the dumps

Lousy is a totally different word. To me a blousy woman is a unkempt, looks like a sack of rubbish, with morals to match. Not a very modern word though still a bad name

I've always thought blousey meant working class and a bit over dressed/over made up, but maybe that's because I also know it from Bugsy Malone?

I always loved the name because I really liked the Bugsy Malone character.

The meaning of the word when referring to clothing in my experience is different to PPs. I’ve always understood it to be referring to a garment that’s flouncy and fussy.

Love Bugsy, love Blousie...but as a name, no.

My DM, a very keen amateur gardener, uses the word Blousie to describe nearly dead roses she's about to dead-head! "This one's blousie, it will have to go!"

All Americans pronounce it like that (unless they’ve been raised by British or Australian parents), not just the ones of Italian heritage. Every time that I’ve heard one say blouse, it rhymes with louse with the way they say it.
