Can I get some honest opinions on Rupert please? It has always been one of my favourite names - I think of it as strong and classic. However, I recently read a few comments about how ridiculous people think it is! It's currently at the top of my list for baby due next year (we don't know the gender yet).

It's a nice name, but I think it’s one that comes with some associations/subtext!

Unless there is a remake of the cartoon anytime soon, only adults will think of the bear.

But I think the name is posh and wet.

It does sound a bit posh but I still really like it. DD1 has one in her class. Young people wouldn't know the bear I wouldn't think.

I like ‘Roo’ as a nickname. But I think Rupert is a bear. Rueben or even Rufus is better.

However, my kids have never heard of Rupert the bear, and they know a Rupert and to them his name is as normal as Freddie/Arthur/Oliver etc.

It is a name I would associate with simeine very privileged and also the bear too. As a teacher I come across names that invite discussion or clarification re spelling. My advice is always to think carefully when you give a child a name.

I think it's a lovely name! Very classic and it sounds nice. It does remind me of the bear but that's not a bad thing.
