Is it really that 'wierd'?

Dh and I are thinking of ttc #2 this year. When dh told mil that we were thinking of Imogen if we have a girl she said "cant you think of any names that aren't wierd"
Ds is called Freddie and 10 months on she still says couldn't you have called him something normal.
Are Imogen and Freddie that wierd?

Imogen was on my list for dd2 (but not on dh's list!). But when dd was born she was so not an Imogen (Imogen conjures up serenity and calmness to me, which dd is not.) that we went for something else instead. Still think it's a lovely name, though.

My dd is Imogen and I really love it. She is the only one I know of in our village but lots of friends who have had babies since wanted to use it but were put off by me getting there first.

Imogen is a lovely name.

And we were xH and I were going to call DS (now 15) Freddie because we found out I was pg on the day Freddie Mercury died.. but my boss at the time was Fred.. so we didn't.. for obvious reasons..

Tell your MIL that you don't think they are weird names at all and that you are sorry she doesn't like them but that the two of you do. (So ner..)

Imogen, is in the What Katy Did books. It always threw me as name.
I always thought it was pronouced (obv no h but sort of like this) (h)IM OOOO GUN

iagree, wouldnt say anytign until it ws a fait acomplie.
however on answering my dd3's name, my uncle did make a rude comment, but he was forgiven...

I think you have chosen lovely names, not werid at all....

I never tell anyone what name we have chosen for ours until they have been born. Despite this we still get 'you can't call her that!' methinks they are very brave to say that to an incredibly hormonal woman who has just been through a long labour

Imogen is a really pretty name.

In-laws can be quite rude - it feels as though they don't trust their own dc to do something sensible. Mine didn't like our choice of name and thought we should call our son Keith !

Most people knew Freddie would be Freddie and everyone loved it except MIL. We'll probably not call her Imogen or we'll have another ds

dhs' dds' middle name is imogen. (after imogen bailey. It's much nicer than her first name) I think it's lovely, AND normal

The lesson to learn is don't tell anyone what name you're considering - if you wait until you have the baby, then proudly announce the safe arrival of Frogmella, they'll just go "aaahhh". (Of course they may stil make comments behind your back, but somehow people only ever say it to your face if you haven't actually named the child yet, perhaps they think they'll be the one to change your mind)

I called DD3 Amelie, and people struggle with it - I didn't think it was weird, but people call her Amelia or Emily. We like the nickname of Millie anyway - she may end up being called Millie sooner than we anticipated as no-one seems to get it right anyway! We have even heard it pronounced Amy-Lee. (She's only 4 weeks old, we have years of this ahead....)

think your mil needs to get out abit more if she think imogen is wierd.

it's not like your thinking of calling her 'Champagne' or 'Chardonay'

We were looking through our baby name book today and dh was picking out some really wierd names like Theodora and Gertrude.

My sister is called Imogen. I have never thought of it as a 'weird' name. It's a bit more popular I think now than it was when my sister was named but as someone else said, a classic, normal name. Freddie is fine too. I don't know what she's on about.

Now my mum doesn't like Imogen. She thinks we should call her Flossie if we have dd so we have Freddie and Flossie.
